It was taken at the Michigan Renaissance Festival by Dan Wrate ([link]) on Sunday, September 2. I'm very grateful to him for allowing me to post this elsewhere.

Some of the hair is mine, there are thick bundles of horsetail wrapped around cloth rags, and fibers from a rough twine in the smaller braids. It took a while to get the "big hair" effect enough to go with the hat and mask combination.

The character is one of my own creation, a human who's "gone native" with a tribe of goblins, and now is their shaman/witch-doctor.

This is part of an experiment, someone suggested to me that I try shooting some of my rockstacks with a fire at night, and I finally got a chance to try it out. Even with a tripod it's very hard to get any kind of focus, as the flickering light really makes shadows move about. But for a first try I think this has potential.

It's inspired by the Krampus Runs that have been held in parts of central Europe for ever (Or at least longer than I care to figure out) a few weeks before Christmas. I'll not try to explain the Krampus, since there's tons of information to be found on the internet.

At any rate, this collage is made of pictures I took during the party. THe top row is of people having fun and enjoying the ball, all of them are wearing costumes they made. I think that's what I enjoyed the most, people putting their creativity to work and doing something fun. The two bottom left photos are of the official Krampus and "Lady Krampus" characters who hosted, the 2nd from the lower right is a picture of me in my costume taken by the AnnArbor.com photographer, and the lower right is the maker of the masks he's wearing, and the ones in the upper right corner.
December the 17th, the local Brewpub in Ypsilanti, MI (USA) had their second-annual "Krampus Ball".

She was born to play an elf, and given enough time I think she'll be able to do the character quite well. She'd just bought the elf-ears shortly before this photo was taken, so she's still getting used to them at this stage.

I, on the other hand, am wearing a getup that I've been working on in a piece-meal fashion since last summer. The claw and such were actually made even longer ago than that, but the vest was made last year, the cloak and hat and staff are all this year, as is the lantern and some of the other ornaments. I've been re-working the hat, and plan to be a good deal more creative with my hair next time I head out there. The plan is to go back to MiRF the weekend of September 17-18, so anybody who's there is more than welcome to say hi and take pictures.
