The project was to come up with our own idea of a social network, brand it, and then design an integrated campaign across all media (except TV and radio). This is a portion of print spreads from my booklet that shows some of the secondary graphics that are used throughout the whole campaign.

This is the midterm project for my History of Design class.

The assignment was to pick a subject pertaining to the invention of writing up to 1600 AD and then produce our own book on the subject. I chose the Aldine Press from the Italian Renaissance.

The Aldine Press was owned and operated by Aldus Manutius and Andrea Torresani. Aldine was the first printer to produce Italic type for book printing and they were the first to mass produce books in the octavo format (a pocket sized book similar to the size of modern paperbacks).
The illustration shown on the cover was the "printer mark" used by the Aldine Press. It was typically stamped on the foreword of the books they printed.

All of the printing, binding and debossing of the front illustration was done by me.

_{Last week I was asked by the Digital Photography instructor at my school to do some guest lectures on Photoshop. I thought it might be helpful for some students in the long run if they had some materials to read over afterwords to answer any further questions they might have, so I started putting together a simple guide.}

This guide is a nuts and bolts explanation of Layers and all of the options there are for creating, adjusting, and managing Layers. This includes locations of menu items, keyboard shortcuts, and explanations of different layer types.
As I said, this is a basic guide to layers, so some things have been intentionally left out. In the future, I will be uploading an advanced user guide that will go into further details and include example images.

Requires Acrobat Reader 5 or above.

Pocket Sketcher

Last week, I was sitting at my computer and thought to myself "I want to make something". 6 hours later a custom sketch book was sitting on my desk.
Everything was measured, cut, trimmed, and bound by hand. The pages were bound with waxed thread, 2 strips of artist's tape, and acid-free glue (similar to Elmer's).

The book has 120 pages of Canson sketch paper. The covers are made with card board stock (approx. 2mm thickness) wrapped in decorative paper bought from the local Blick art store. I wish they had more options, but this was the most unique I could find. I might recover it later on.

I've only drawn on one page and it's not even finished

Ideally, I would have made this in Flash, because I had a lot of great ideas, but I unfortunately don't know Flash as well as I used to.
The idea was to create a portfolio using a contemporary, modern style with the entire content fixed for a minimum resolution monitor so there would be no scrolling.

What we have here is an alternative to the bright colors of dA that consists of a Journal CSS, Gallery CSS, custom Gallery Icons, and a couple goodies for your enjoyment.

V2 utilizes a basic dark gray/black theme and incorporates the brilliant green color of the dA search bar in various places.

V3 is based on dark colors carefully picked from throughout dA, providing a more muted color scheme that also matches the look and feel of dA's darker features.

_{Each version is split into respective packages containing all necessary content and instructions. For the journal and gallery CSS, you will need to host the provided images on your own image hosting site (Photobucket, ImageShack, etc.).

To use the Gallery CSS, go to a Folder in your gallery and click on Edit > Options > Style. Opt in to use CSS (if you haven't already) and paste the CSS into the box.}

This is the final result of one of my school projects. The class was Materials, Tools & Comping techniques. The main focus of the class was to learn how to brainstorm, prepare, create, and present packaging designs.
This project lasted the whole class and was the main product we worked on, among other things like gift boxes and shopping bags. The concept was to pick a bottle of balsamic vinegar or olive oil, redesign a 1-color rubdown label based on information we gathered about the company and the product, then have it printed and apply it to our bottle.
We started with a bottle of our choice, did our research, redesigned the type into 4 different style choices, then did 20 thumbnails sketches based on 5 concepts of our choice, combined our type and thumbnails into 4 refined label designs, and then chose 1 design for our final rubdown label.

The only thing not shown is a gold emblem stamp on the top.
