Remember when I was talking about the decline of the hand in its willingness to draw what you envisioned?

Voila. I give you my attempts at drawing Commander Zhao from Avatar the Last airbender. As a character I absolutely love him, and I wont' lie when I say I was thoroughly influenced by Rufftoon.

I wanted to go for a much more well rounded Zhao, looking serious, not evil but also dignified. Alas. Instead I couldn't quite work out proportions with his face and it stumped me near everytime.

I always think it's important to show even when something didn't quite go your way, because no one is perfect.

Told you I'd do it.

Even though I had a volunteer badge, I was lucky enough to get a Saturday pass so I could wander around in this beast all day. XD It was difficult trying to get through the exhibition hall, but it was definitely worth it. I won the fan panel costume contest and then after the Dark Horse signing (which I didn't get to go to because I chose to go to the fan panel instead of standing in line for a bracelet), I felt a tap through the costume and turned around to see Bryan standing there asking for a photo. We got one normal photo, then one of him being "eaten" (a lot of people requested this type of photo haha).

I was going to wear my EIP Aang costume, but it was hot enough under this in just a tank top, so I decided not to. I did wear the pants and shoes and they showed when I walked.

If you were one of the many people who got photos either during the fan panel or in the hallways, please let me know! I would love to see them. :3

Just some background information: this comic is based off of my fanfiction called Being A Concubine To Master. It's a pretty interesting fanfic that is bombarded with rape, murder, abuse and heartbreak. There are now 3 stories with this young concubine named Koori and her adventure shall continue into Legends of Koora.

I was cleaning up my old hard disc and look what I found! I totally forgot about these, I made the back in '08! Good times... I was Avatar-crazy at that time (still am, in fact).

IMPORTANT: I used sprites from the game as bases for these. I know it's not proper behaviour, I'll share these nontheless for old times' sakes. Maybe someone likes them, I loved making them back then. If anyone really thinks that this deviation is problematic because of that I'll take them down right away!

Hehe... So I've been wanting to do this for some time now. A few days? weeks? ago I got a comment about another pic I did of Admiral Zhao. The feedback I got was that Zhaos eyes seemed off and a bot too small. I really wanted to correct my mistake, but I was so used to the picture that I couldn't really see the problem. All I could think of was how to make the eyes bigger without him looking like a powerpuff. After some time I got to it and the result was nice, but the powerpuff Zhao haunted my mind. And well... Now, here he is! xD

The fifth in the Seiryuu no Avatar set of drawings.

I came up with the idea for this when I realized that there are a lot of similarities between the lead characters of Avatar: The Last Airbender, and the lead characters of Fushigi Yuugi. So, one thing led to another, and I ended up drawing the Avatar characters as their Fushigi Yuugi counterparts.

After I finished that, I figured that I needed to do the villains, too. Thus, the Seiryuu set was born.

Fourth is Zhao, the wild one, as Ashitare.

Not sure how I feel about this one. I didn't really enjoy working on it, which is why it took so long. I think it's because the folds on the cloths aren't up to par with the rest of the set, and it was throwing me off. *shrugs*

How awesome would firebreath be in certain situations? Le sigh...

EDIT: So apparently Azula is 14 in the show, which struck me as odd because she seems like 30 in personality and at least 18 in looks, but w/e. So this is a rendering of an older Azula (at least 16) since that is how I was perceiving her when I drew it.

Enemieszai, Rongo, Azula, Avatar gang(for first season etc), and other obvious enemies in the show.

Brief History:
Ria is the daughter of bender and healer Kaiya of the Northern Water Tribe. Her father is Admiral Zhao of the Fire Nation. Kaiya and Zhao fell in love (sounds weird about zhao huh?) in the Earth Kingdom where Zhao was stationed 14 years before the Siege of the Northern Water Tribe. Kaiya helped as a healer and met Zhao while helping him. Zhao thought no feelings of Kaiya at first, and used her to try getting information about the Water Tribes. Zhao soon came to the realization that he really loved Kaiya. Kaiya had told Zhao about the Tribe's tradition for girls to marry at sixteen and for men to propose to them with a necklace showing the mans affection for them. Zhao decided to make one for her, and she loved it. She knew Zhao had to leave eventually, and his power hungry and arrogant personality began to show more and more and she didn't want that. Also the fact that it was VERY looked down upon to have relations with someone from another Nation. Especially Water and Fire. Kaiya also found out she was pregnant, and she knew Zhao wouldn't stand to have a child around. It just couldn't work. Kaiya one night left Zhao with just a note, and he never saw her afterwards.
Ria grew up pretty much isolated due to her half bred genes. Her mother didn't want her to be shunned, and unwanted. The village they were staying at had poor, yet understanding and kind people who accepted Ria.They even let her firebend, which she found she could do at age 8. Ria had a temper though, and was very determined to leave. Ria left her mother and their village behind at age 13. She then found another village that accepted her, but said if she was seen firebending, she would be banished. Being the headstrong type, she did it anyway and sure enough got caught by her friend Leeza. While the village leader gave the banishment speech, a certain Prince, and Uncle were in the village gathering supplies. Ria was also known for her healing, and navigation skills. Iroh brought Ria onboard the ship, and there she could be happy and firebend all she wanted. The only problem was Prince Zuko who hated the fact he had a "Mutt" or "filthy half breed" on his ship.

Personality: Kind, caring, short tempered, determined, ambitous, tactical, smart, watch out though, she will fight you and youll probably be burned for couple weeks.

The final of Becky's commission. This was first colored with colored pencils, enhanced on GIMP and then blended for a better visual effect (except the hair). Anyways, this is the con Zhao/Zuko. In my head, it's a sort of "The Blue Spirit" episode AU where Zhao offers to free the Avatar for Zuko instead. Zuko agrees (however reluctantly)...

Admiral Zhao from Avatar: The Last Airbender. The character really added a depth of maturity and reality to the show, and I found him to be a great anchor for those aspects. I really like the Fire Nation's respect for good sideburns and that was actually part of what made me want to draw this. I drew this last night without a reference, and I really like how it came out. Let me know what you think!
