Leitz Canada F4 250mm Telyt

Leitz Canada F4 250mm Telyt , was taken with a Vivitar Series 1 F2,5 90mm (1976) on a Canon 60D body.(2011)

The Leitz F4 250mm was made by the Leitz factory in Midland Ontario , Canada.

Although it is optically a 250mm, it is in real life very short for this type of telelens, its only 154mm long !!

But everything has its price, this short Telelens of 154mm weighs 1398 grams, or 1,4 Kg !

To my likings its a bit soft at F4 but at F5,6 its staggering sharp as one would expect from a Leitz lens.

This one is from 1977, and I bought it last week in very mint condition(as new) and boxed for the price of 225 euro including postage.

First photo impressions are good , and will be labeled "Leitz Telyt test shot" in my gallery.

Afternoon with cat and mouse or rat number 4 of 4 Photo's

This afternoon around 4 I started up the laptop in the living room, when I saw one of the neighborhood cats running around on the lawn in front of our house and suddenly it sat still.

After a few minutes it started again, and then it sat still again.

I took my camera with a telephoto-lens in order to see what was happening on the lawn, it became clear that the cat had been chasing a small furry ball, in the right side of the picture...

I suppose it was fatigued being chased so it sat still but iff the cat would crawl closer it would charge in self-defense , thats when I took this second picture

Not knowing what the status was, I went onto the lawn and chased the cat away, while the furry ball stayed immobile , when I sat next to it , it looked up and was breathing heavenly , so it was alive and I started caressing its back gently and it became somewhat more moveable .

At this time Caro had come out to see how it was doing, and asked if it was damaged in any way by the cat.

To check the small one out I took it in my hand palm to see if there was damage done but could find none , it was walking around Ok in my palm and sniffing everything, then I turned it around to see if there was any damage or signs of punctures or blood on its belly, and found none.

But I think it became fed up with this medical check, and set its teeth in my finger and only let go when I started to caress it again, it must have been stressed.

We put it back on the lawn and it went to a hidden entrance of a den under the lawn, we looked around and found another 3 entrys , but it wouldnt go inside even with the cat at about 8 meters distance observing everything...

So I put it in into the main entry, and brought it some cheese so it wouldnt have to go out in day time to look for food
Caro and I were just 10 minutes in the house observing the grass polls where the entrys to the den were, when the grass started to move and this came out !!!

What we had held for an adult mouse, was in fact an infant brown rat !!!

Most probably when the young one had entered the den with the cheese it told its dad about its ordeal it had with the cat , and the two legged creature that saved it , been bitten, and still gave cheese !

So dad came out to check this story ! lol !

Caro and I laughed about it we just have saved an infant rat from the cat, but then every live form to us is precious .

Some will say that rats are harmful to us humans, but that is a mindset we dictate ourselves, because its convenient.

In abstraction there is only harmful creature on this planet, and that is the human race itself.

We misuse and rape this planet, bleeding nature its natural resources to death, like there is no Tomorrow !

Instead of cherishing and conserving it for our posterity, and its future generations to come !

The Republican Guard is the heir of all bodies that have ensured in the course of history, honors and protection of the high authorities of the State and City of Paris. Taken at 85mm at full lens opening, it can deliver details the other kit lenses cannot deliver on a 18 megapixel body!!

but then it is 6x more expensive !! around 700 euro.

The Jupiter-9 is a Russian copy of the pre-war Zeiss Sonnar 85mm f/2 (1936), and perhaps that's the reason why this lens has such an outstanding reputation. Result pretty impressive, Not by the sheer resloution of around 36 LPmm , but in the way it can pull the subject from its background with a beautifull Bokeh !!!!!

Very good performer as portrait and close-up lens.

as a portrait lens, soft at wide open means it makes an excellent portrait lens,

One or two f stop down this lens is tack sharp highly recommended as general purpose close-up lens.Quality is excellent even wide open !!

This lens is pleasant experience all around, colour, sharpening, focusing, build quality everything just great.

Paid 80 euro for mine in mint condition, build in 1990 .

Helios 44-2

The Forgotten Biotar lens, is a Russian Helios 40-2 .

Its a F2 58mm Carl Zeiss Biotar copy, and a very good one!

This one is an m39 screw mount version from the beginning of the sixties, which has a preset aperture on the forward side of the lens .

The helios lenses came as standard lens for the Russian Zenit Camera's in the sixties and seventies and are therefor produced in large volumes .

The lens gives already crisp images at F2, and staggering sharpness at F4, and in both cases the Bokeh is very nice !!

You can pick up these fotgotten helios lenses at Flea markets between 5 and 15 euro, and to be honest even at 20 its a steal !!!!

Two test images are made with Caro, one at F2 and the other at F4 !!

See for yourself, hope you like them, and start searching for a nice Helios 40-2 .

F4 300mm Orestegor lens

F4 300mm Orestegor is made by Meyer Optik in Gorlitz in Germany.

Orginally it was made for 6 x 6 cm camera's but due to the fact that it has a T2 adapter on the rear it can be converted to nearly every mount.

I bought mine for a 45 euro at a flea market in the neighbourhood in a status as new with an MD mount, for which i orderd an MD >> 4/3 mount to put it on the Oly !!

No signs of use could be detected other then fingerprints.
the aperture (counting 19 blades !!) IS PERFECT ROUND ON EVERY STOP, is clean and shows no signs of use !!

Its very sharp already on full lensopening and has a beautifull bokeh !!

Only thing is its size and weight, it is a 2,3 Kg heap of glass , it a Carl Zeis Sonnar copy with 7 elements !!

Industar 50-2, is a Russian manual focus lens which is a copy of the Carl Zeiss Tessar "pancake"lens .

It looks ugly, its cheap, its manual, so why do it ??

its verry light and verry sharp !!!!!!!!!

-FOV corresponds to a 80mm lens on a 35mm camera
a Tessar derivative.

-Rather sharp already wide open, sharp at f/5.6, very sharp at f/8, although perhaps not as sharp as a Carl Zeiss Jena Biotar 2/58.

-But then this is a much cheaper and smaller lens
very light at 65g .

-very cheap , you will find them for around $15.

F4 300mm Orestegor , a 2.4 kilo Carl Zeiss Sonnar copy from Meyer-Optik in Gorlitz Germany !!

Bought it in "A" (as new but not boxed) status for 45,- at a flea market last sunday !!

Already razor sharp at full opening, and a beautifull bokeh !

two times macro

For Macro Photography i can use my Olympus E420 or E600 with a 70-300 (macro) or with a Volna-9 50mm Macro lens.

But still, the size of the body can be a drag , when for instance we are talking about taking shots from very small mushrooms !!!!

With the small Lumix one can use a very low angle due to the size of the body , which no DSLR can deliver !!

Also the macro foval length used is 6mm (28mm equivilent) , which gives a hel of a lot more depth of field , even at full lensopening !!

2 beautifull Russian lenzes

2 beautifull Russian dash 9 lenzes !!

Bought these 2 at the International Photografica Exchange market at the Village in Houten Holland on Sunday 22th of november .

On the left the Jupiter-9, a fast and excellent F2,0 85mm Russian copy of the Carl Zeiss Sonnar lens , bought for 70 Euro ! >>> [link]

On the right the Volna-9 macro, an excellent F2,8 50mm Russian copy of the Carl Zeiss Tessar lens , bought for 60 Euro ! >>> [link]

Both these lenzes, besides giving very sharp and crisp images, excell in the gradually decaying sharpnes towards the background !! Also called Bokeh !! see >> [link] .

Iff weather permits will shoot some nice photo's with these lenses in the coming time !!!

For those interrested, the Biggest and Nicest Photografica Exchange in Europe is in the village of bievres just under Paris in France (next to the airport of Orly!!) , on June 5th and 6th 2010, Antiques & Second Hand Photographic Fair!!

It will be held for the 47th time next year, and atracted more then 30.000 people this year !!!!!

Olympus and TAIR 3A

Olympus and TAIR 3A, taken with a Lumix LX2.

Sorry couldn't help myself , bought another one !!!

The TAIR 3A (1973)is the last version made of the 300mm versions of the TAIR 3 which stopped fabrication in 2005 by the Optical and Mechanical plant at LCIA (Zagorski optical-mechanical plant, Sergiev Posad) - version "A(Tair-3 4,5 / 300-A or Tair-3A) - with a replaceable "A-adapter, allowing use of the lens with the camera with a connecting thread M42x1/45, 5 and M39x1/45, 2.

Tha big differenceses with the 3s I already have is that it can be focussed from 2 meters (in stead of 3 meters with the TAIR 3s) , the way of focussing is conventional , lens hood is build in, and it weighs 200 grams more , and it has an interchangeable "A" adapter so other fittings can be used !!

Further it came with a beautiful leather case , including the filters, there was only one snag, the aperture was hard (near impossible to move !!

So i bought it for 50,- on internet and it was delivered yesterday !

Worked on the aperture this morning, and it is now in fine working order, the problem was dried up grease since most probably the lens haddend been used for perhaps a good 10 years !!(it came out of a Collection).

Attached the adapter to fit the Olympus fitting and adjusted the barrel, and its ready to go !!

(At the World Exhibition in Brussels in 1958 a set of lenses, which included a Tair-3, was awarded the highest award - "Prix.)
In 1959, the lens was awarded the Diploma of II degree VDNH USSR.

A wolf of a lens, the Russian Tair 11A mounted to the Olympus body !!

It is a F2.8 135mm , designed for portraits, it has a preset aprenture , which is located in the front of the lens, and consists of 20 blades !!

it gives a perfect round opening wath ever aprenture is chosen !!

This lens is wel known for its beautifull bokeh (unsharpness)!!!

Beautifull beast of a lens !!!

Russian Tair 3S, a F4.5 300mm for 24x 36 filmroll camera´s.

Mounted on the digital Olympus E420 body it will act as an F4.5 600mm , due to the crop factor of 2x !!

The lens was designed in the mid 50´s, and at the World Exhibition in Brussels in 1958 a set of lenses, which included a Tair-3, was awarded the highest award.

In 1959, the lens was awarded the Diploma of II degree VDNH USSR.

All lenses are used on the Olympus body, the pre-digital lenses by means of adapters wich i bought in Hong Kong and Germany !

From left to right:

Sigma 10-20mm , then in the back a 40-150mm Olympus , in front of that the standard kit zoom the 14-42mm Olympus !!

In the Middle a Olympus E420 body, here fitted with a Russian 37mm Mir-1 (Carl Zeiss Flektogon) , an outstanding lens from 1964 , bought for only 20,- !!

to the right in the back a Russian Jupiter-11 (Carl Zeiss Sonnar), a lens hard to beat in performance , its from 1971 and bought for 30,- !!!

In front of that a black Leica Summicron 50mm, a lens that surpasses the rest on the table in performance, in terms of resolution and contrast at full opening !! to be honest it also surpasses the the C-mos sensor of the Olympus body !

bought the Leica SL (SLR) and the lens together in mint condition for 200,- only !

The cheapest new price for 50mm Summicron in Holland is at this moment 1398,- Euro !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Next row of lenses are from the back to the front, a 9 cm Leitz Elmar from 1948, then a 5 cm Leitz Summicron from 1951 , and the last one is a 1956 3,5 cm Leitz Summaron.

The last 3 are of pre war design for non-slr body's , so the distance from lens mount till the film plane is smaller then that of a digital SLR, which means that they will not focus to infinity, but will act as superb Leitz Macro lenses !!!!!

Next lenses I want to buy are the Jupiter-9 a 85mm F2.0 , or a Helios 40-2 also 85mm F1.5 !!!!!!!!!!!

Unsurpassed portrait lenses with beautifull Bokeh !!!!!!!!!!

Summer darknes 2009.

Summer Darkness is the biggest alternative-music-festival in the Netherlands and is active since 2003, sround the second weekend in August !!!

The set-up is similar to the German Gothic-Wave-treffen in Leipzig, but smaller.
