Hi, I'm alive! I painted this for INK's 21st annual exhibit last November 2012 at Canvas Gallery. The theme was about Filipino idioms and the one I got was "Bungang Tulog", which means dreams.

I make it a policy to print only one piece of every exhibit piece to make it special, so there won't be any prints for sale of this unless you would like to buy the single edition framed print. Here are a few detail shots: [link] [link]

It is also a bit connected to this ol' drawing of mine: An idea that got out of hand I just noticed my characters are getting more and more chibi-looking as the years go by (￣Д￣;;

I know, I know, I'm always late at posting stuff, lol! the past few months have been a whirlwind-- I just finished illustrating a new book and I will share it with you guys when it is released into the wilderness!!! ヽ(ﾟ∀ﾟ )ﾉ I'm 40% excited and 50% happy and 10% freaking out due to various reasons about this book. haha.

There was a dragon dance in our neighborhood yesterday. There were about 4 lions in different colors (so cute!), and a dragon!

I want my own Chinese lion to scare away bad things. Plus they just look so darn cuddly!

Save the Date

A very creative couple commissioned me to draw for their save the date and wedding invitations. There were so many pages and I even had to draw faces of the entourage and the priest! I worked on this from October to December, along with a friend who did the text layout and design. Man it was crazy at parts and I lost some sleep, but the moment a project is finished and the client is happy--ah, bliss.

Also, their wedding is TODAY!

2011 has been really busy for me in terms of client work, so I wasn't able to draw as much personal stuff as I would've liked. But still, considering that I've managed to work on 2 children's books, it has been a very, very productive year! I don't have any specific new year's resolutions except to just keep on drawing and improve!

Helloooooooooooo everyone~ This is what kept me busy for the past month!!! It's for a local children's book (in the Philippines) with random educational facts. You can probably already guess what some of the articles are about. The book is still in the works so I can't go into more detail about it just yet. I'm so excited though!

Anyone who can make one coherent story out of all these spot illustrations shall be hailed a writing genius. LOL.

Everyone's a fan of something! She is typing a poem about tomatoes and it probably goes something like this:

I don't know what was going on in my head when I drew this!　;;; I think I was enjoying this really good tomato soup for lunch and I was just thinking how awesome tomatoes are. My mind often wanders to the randomest of things.

Also, did you know that a book called "A Tomato Lover's Handbook" actually exists?! Published in 1987, it has a nice recipe for tomato jam. [link] LOL.

It is the year of the bunny! I managed to finish this early. I feel so proud. hahaha! *u* I read somewhere that this will be a lucky year for the Sheep, Horse, Pig (yay~), and Ox.

I also realized that at the rate I am going, I will complete all 12 animals in the zodiac in... 10 YEARS?! AUGH! (￣Д￣;;　SO, I am probably going to up the pace and make more of these regardless of whatever year it is, and make a whole set of this theme as quickly as I can! But not all at once! haha, I still have a whole bunch of ideas that need attention! Perhaps 3 animals this year (dragon, snake, and horse). Mmm, we shall see. Must. stay. focused. @_@

Ah, I am rambling. Anyway, HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR~

A few months back in Canada, I was so bored waiting in line at the airport so I sketched the person in front of me!

I LIKED PONIES!

Kind of late posting this, but better than never! My children's illustrator group, Ang InK, had a mini-exhibit last June 1-15, 2010 at Gallery 7, Eastwood Mall. The theme was to draw yourself at age seven, which was a lot of fun.

I cant remember much about myself as a seven year old aside from that. Oh, and the fact that I always got into trouble for playing pranks on people.

another case of random doodling gone wild~

it started out as a doodle during a meeting at work, then i scanned it and throughout the month i worked on it bit by bit whenever i felt like it.

now that it's done, it makes me wonder how i did all that. O_O it's like waking up in a strange place and realizing you've sleepwalked! haha

speaking of sleep, it's 2 am and I need some right now. @_@

I drew the firefly tree first, all the while figuring out what else to put, then suddenly this little-red-riding-hood-like girl walked by and said she was going to stop for a little rest by the tree. Though why a little girl should be walking alone in such a dark forest I'll never know. I was too sleepy to ask. She seemed to like the fireflies, so I let her be.

Anyway, I made this into a tiny wallpaper size. Hope y'all like it.

AUGH, I LOVE THIS SERIES (even though I am still starting on the second book). *_*

I was in the bookstore when I saw this on the best seller's shelf. Curious, I skimmed through the summary. Hmm. Napoleonic wars... with talking dragons. hmmmmmm.
It sounded interesting, so I bought it and after 30 pages into the book, I WAS ABSOLUTELY SMITTEN. Temeraire is ADORABLE.

On the artsy side, I've been uninspired lately, so here I am drawing fanart to be more productive. My style is really girly, so uh... please forgive me if it has ruined your image of the characters in any way. Laurence is a prettyboy (he is supposed to be much older but at the time I was drawing this I wasn't sure of his age so I took liberties, and I may have gone overboard with the ultra-wavy-glossy-shiny hair which makes you wonder what shampoo he uses) and Temeraire looks like a pokemon. OTL

ANYWAY, YOU GUYS HAVE TO READ THIS BOOK. Ahahahahaha! 8D

My entry for INK's annual exhibit, 2009. I illustrated a part of a story, "Anghel ng Kuwento", written by the late Filipino children's writer Rene O. Villanueva. It is about angels who give inspiration to children through imagination and stories. I drew this sometime in September, and the exhibit ran for two weeks at the Cultural Center of the Philippines in November.

I am thinking about putting this up for sale (it's framed and printed on special shiny matte paper), anyway send me a note if interested and I'll see what I can do!

A huge typhoon (Ondoy / Ketsana) caused havoc and mayhem in Metro Manila last Saturday, Sept 26, 2009. The flood gobbled houses, cars, trees, and people. Our house was unscathed, but the office wasn't. My work laptop was in the bottom drawer of my desk and it got completely submerged in mucky floodwater. And it was...brand new. (sigh) But I'm pretty thankful though, because others have it much, much worse.

Just a quick drawing I managed to squeeze in between commissions. I am so busy right now--it's been one heck of a crazy month, but I can't ignore it when inspiration hits. :I

Sabriel belongs to Garth Nix, from The Abhorsen Trilogy / Old Kingdom series. I liked Lirael's story a lot too. If I find the time and inspiration, I would like to draw Mogget, the Disreputable Dog, Lirael, and Nicholas as well! I have this goal of drawing the main characters of all the books I like... and see if anybody can recognize them!

I pretty much work on these things little by little everyday. It's great stress-relief. Ok, time to get back to those commissions I've been puttin' off.

The People Power Revolution (also known as the EDSA Revolution and the Philippine Revolution of 1986) was a series of nonviolent and prayerful mass street demonstrations in the Philippines that occurred in 1986. I drew something for an environmental column (Haribon) that came out in the local newspaper (Manila Times) yesterday, and this was my original concept... but people said it didn't look too environmental-ish, so I changed the stars into birds. O_O (and used this version as a Christmas card instead @_@ Ahaha... talk about lazy )

Those huge stars hanging from the tree are called "Parol".

Gosh it's almost the end of November, so I finally got around to posting this. It's my entry for the annual INK exhibit (a Philippine children's illustrator group) held in a local mall a couple of weeks ago. The theme was about the circus / carnival and I wanted to be different so I went with a Chinese theme. I've seen a few shows when I lived in China for a year, and I was really amazed. *_*

I worked on this one for a whole week and I'm really proud of it. I managed to sell it too!!! So happy.

OK! I've been working on this little by little over the past few days. I am not 100% happy how the background came out, especially the gravestone, and yes my anatomy still needs work. -_- *sighs*

Anyway, moving on, about the book... the series is called "Stravaganza" by Mary Hoffman. So far I've read the first 2 books, "City of Masks" then "City of Stars". The 2 settings of the series take place in 21st century London and in an alternate dimension of 16th century Italy. I'm not sure what category to put it under because it's got a little bit of everything! It's quite unique and it makes you just want to go and visit Italy someday. *_* I can't wait for the third book, "City of Flowers"!

Sooo... yea... this is Georgia, a character from the 2nd book. Her character is supposed to look more tomboyish; her hair's supposed to be reaaally short, but I just caaaaaaaan't bring myself to make her look like a guy. Anyway, the boy she likes just passed away ...but don't worry, she'll be alright.
