From the outset it was a very interesting project to take on, Rob Flynn of Machine Head was pushing for an Art Direction as opposed to a cover. Stemming from the cover, colour, texture, tone , all wrapped up and spawning from the cover. It was a great experience, rather than see it as a CD cover, I approached it from a creature design point of view, the same way I approach any movie designs. Mixed with the mood and art direction that would come from say a gallery piece or key frame. Then translated this through to all the pages, text , logos for the band . I have nothing but admiration for Robb and the band, a real creative powerhouse of minds and allot of fun to work for.

We went through a number of design changes , playing with the balance of 'real' locust features with horror elements, human elements. Some designs favoured more human arms, eyes, limb proportions. Some pure skinny locusts, mass of locusts and so on. Some shadowed creatures, wide shots , close ups. We felt this shot gave a glimpse of what was coming , has the right balance of disgusting texture with locust elements and 'horror' features.

Iv recently been taking this Art Direction and design and using it to help in the creation of the music video. Its going to be allot of fun seeing this creature come alive. Will update with images when I can, taking designs from sketch to photoshop, to 3d model ( physical ) and beyond. ]]>

When staring into a Mandala something triggered , my visual eye pulled back from the small 10 x 10 piece of paper. The swirling centre remained by the surrounding was more organic, a mixture of flesh and nature. Solid yet lucid. This is an illustration or representation of an original Mandala. A spirit whose given purpose is that to stir the imagination, to trigger an inner journey with its very presence.

For better or for worse, intentionally or unintentionally the journey would be an ancient journey. To the core of the Otherworld perhaps or however your mind interprets such places.

Unfortunately you dont get the full effect here, it was done 30 " 40 " 300dpi, its really meant to be viewed so large that your had would fit in the creatures stomach. ]]>

Unfortunately you dont get the full effect here, it was done 30 " 40 " 300dpi, its really meant to be viewed so large that your had would fit in the creatures stomach.

Using one photo as a basis for manipulation and texture I set out to create the life cycle of a creature. I wanted rather then show the creature as a solid entity, to show it as a deformation of flesh. A constantly shifting form, it knows its dying so it struggles to keep its shape right until the end. ]]>

This was done for a good friend of mine who runs his own tattoo studio called TUFUGA ZOO ( [link] ) and does all my tattoos. The brief was to create an image of him on a thrown of skulls and bones with the text ‘’on the eighth day God created …. Me ‘’ along the top. It’s a 7 foot by 4 foot banner to be shown at conventions and shows across the Uk.

It took approx 8 hours from start to finish, I was under pressure to finish as I had very little spare time to work on commissions outside my main projects. Despite the time pressure I liked the end result and managed to have allot of fun adding all those skulls and bones.

bang, like a movie, finnishing with a explosion, a battle ect. However I
never set out to creat a self contained story only show climpses of a
possible world. So I felt an 'end' image wasnt appropriets, instead I;ve
opted for another glimpse, this time we look to the skies...The seeds of
these flying machines cary not the destructive capabilities of old but new
life....the procreators

I stick my joy in the buildings in the homes
The spawn spreads among them, like rust it corrodes
They swim with death, my children of sin
My children to be, the metal flex they will see
Offspring's now kill, grow stronger within
They make me proud they kill just for me

The design of the procreators was based on a dream I had a long time aga, at the time I painted the dream realy quikly , you can see that here.
