        <media:copyright url="http://scrivener-of-light.deviantart.com">Copyright 2011-2013 ~Scrivener-of-Light</media:copyright>            <media:description type="html"><![CDATA[ Sometimes the things of greatest value are hidden deeply in the mundane.<br /><br />As a young maiden, the Lady Sevani one morning found a buttoncaked in mudoutside her doorstep.<br /><br />Sevani was a commoner at that time, and not expected to do more than marry and bear children. No one knew what she would becomethat within her was an overwhelming aptitude for magic.<br /><br />That morning she found the button was the beginning of an altogether ordinary day. She went inside and washed the mud from the trinket. Nothing about the button was particularly worth noting. It was a rounded black stone set in bronze. But that simple button was, in fact, imbued with arcane energies.<br /><br />After sewing the button to one of her favorite shirts, Sevani thought nothing more of it. But a few days later, when she wore that beloved shirt, the energies hidden within the button began to mingle with the dormant energies hidden in Sevani. Of course, even these multiplied energies would have had no value without being channeled.<br /><br />But on her way home from the market that day, Sevani was attacked, which, unfortunately, was common in Gathendor at the time. That stress coupled with the magnitude of Sevanis pent-up energy resulted in an explosion of raw arcane force. Sevani put a crater in the cobbled street and damaged many nearby buildings. But in her own way, she was quite attractive.<br /><br />Ive never seen anyone else of her race, and I ask few questionsits better for businessso I know nothing of this woman but that she wanted a tonic to slow the advance of age.<br /><br />Now she may have been purchasing this tonic for another, but whether the treatment was for her or not, she brought to mind a simple truth. No matter how different the peoples of our world may be, we hold one thing in common: death.<br /><br />Weve all heard legends of ancient races that possessed the secrets of immortalitythe elfin peoples are particularly fond of telling such tales concerning their ancestors. Perhaps the simplest proof against such stories is that each of these immortal races has died out.<br /><br />And so the business of selling agents that delay our common fate has been and always will be profitable. Be wary, for many will sell you agents proven only in the mind of the superstitious.
