These ladies are based off 2 characters I did way back in 1991. I was really heavily into Cyberpunk & Shadowrun at the time. I never bothered to role play... I just liked making up characters and drawing them. Still do actually... I don't bother with stories, just make up lots of characters and basic outlines of their lives...

A couple years ago... I decided to revisit some of my old Cyberpunk stuff and started reworking these two. Since I couldn't really remember what they were originally... I settled on them being Sisters who were witches. I made them both human, gave one a more "Cyber" appearance, the other more Natural. I only had headshots from 1991, so I had to channel my "late 1980's self" to decide what they should be wearing. I only got as far as lines and flat color...

So that brings us up to date. This image is a reworking of the reworking... there were a lot of anatomy issues with the 2010 image. Not that this new one is perfect... but its definitely better. The "Cyber" sister's robot leg was way wrong in the old version, and her face looked odd. The "Natural" one was just all out of whack... so she got straightened out and her right foot isn't a hoof anymore. LOL!

Glad I finally got to finish this... I would keep looking at wanting to finish it but just never got around to it until now. Good thing really... as I've improved a lot since the 2010 WIP. Did them better justice now then I could have at the time...

I didn't do any WIP screenshots of this... but I'll post some close-ups and a side-by-side in my scraps when I get a chance.

So this is for the Girls Drawin' Girls theme this week... Rainbow Brite.

I don't remember being big into Rainbow Brite when it came out in the 80's. I think I was a bit too old.
In 1984 I had discovered Duran Duran & Culture Club and probably thought I was WAY too mature for babydoll cartoons.

I always liked Patty O'Green though... she was a spunky one! I've redesigned her here a bit more grown up... a Tween you might call it. I didn't want to do just an bigger version of the existing outfit... as it gets into that creepy fetish costume realm... and I hate seeing young girls wearing clothing too old (aka - revealing) for them. I cringe every time. So my Patty gets herself a comfy t-shirt and some awesome pants! ]]>

I'm totally in love with the Minions! They remind me of Twinkies... and thats how this idea popped into my head.

I loves me some Carl Kolchak, TVs original Paranormal Investigator brilliantly played by Darren McGavin (of Christmas Story fame). I tried to keep as much of Carl's iconic look as possible, but feminizing it and keeping the fashion era appropriate. Think it turned out pretty good, I can almost see the back sweat from her polyester leisure suit. LOL!

Yes, the Scaries are back in their new form. I did some playing around with inking and coloring. I wanted the background to be a little rough compared to the characters. I was going for watercolor, but looks more like really dried out dollar store markers. *sigh*

The alien dominatrix is based off of a sketch I did a while back... but she wasn't based on an alien race from the Star Wars universe. After a bit of searching I found the "Nautolans" which made me happy because I really wanted to keep her as close to the sketch as possible. All I had to do was add some more head tentacle thingys and she was good to go!

So what is the opposite of a sexy, female alien sex kitten? Yeah... that guy. Poindexter is sooo out of his league. LOL!


The background galaxy is from the Nasa website... figured I could use it since I technically paid for it already with my income taxes. ]]> Jedis & Siths.

Since I already did my Capricorn with a fish tail I didn't want to repeat it for Pisces and do the typical "mermaid" for this sign. I thought about making the character a Fish Person... Creature from the Black Lagoon style. But then I'd end up having a bunch of hybrid type characters (I still have Aries, Taurus, Cancer... you see where this is going!)

As I was pondering what to do, I remembered a tattoo I saw a while ago of 2 Koi fish... and the idea of a tattooed lady with all fish tattoos emerged.

When I first thought about doing this project 10 years ago (as mentioned in my journal), I pictured it being all retro 50's Pin-Ups. But as I started on this the other day...it just wasn't working for me. I decided to try cutesy 'Toon girls instead...

Do you ever have one of those moments where you feel you've turned a corner artistically? I think this might be it...

I've been trying to get a more animated style for a long time, but just wasn't happy with anything (even the Scaries). They have all felt a bit sophomoric to me, but I think with this one I'm finally getting to where it looks "professional". You know what I mean?

So along with the Alphabet idea, I plan for this to be a way to push this cartoon style, and include some variation in body shapes and faces. Another place I feel I need a lot of improvement! Hopefully I can keep it up for the whole project!

"MARY of the BLUE LIGHTS

No one is quite sure where Mary comes from, or how she manages to survive. Twelve years old, she lives on the city streets, despite many attempts to move her to a stable habitat. Somehow she manages to survive despite adversity, giving credit only to what she calls the 'blue lights'. Strange, glowing lights that she speaks to and that help take care of her. Only she can see them. Some people see her as crazy; maybe she is, or maybe she is in touch with forces that speak only directly to her."


I decided the backstory for my version of Mary would be that her mother was a "Fortune Teller", but had real "sight" which was a trait passed on to Mary. Her mother is murdered for seeing the wrong person's future and Mary is left alone, with only the Blue Lights to care for her.
