Metal Armor Practice

Reference used:

You can tell i really start to lose it around the hips, then it just turns into whatever under that and the arms LOL. Whatever, it's a good photo to practice from cause you can see how the metal reflects not just light but also the SKY and the GRASS, a lot of times people draw armor and they just do strong highlights based on only the metal's color but metal doesn't look like metal unless it is legit reflecting it's surroundings so it's good practice

I have a hard time "seeing" colors, so it's also good practice for me to see if i matched the colors to the photo well, not so concerned with photo realism for this kinda stuff. I think i might have over saturated the reflections but in a way i like that effect too, so i won't be too shy for real art.

I think i over did the smoothing on her face, i guess because she was easier to draw so i spent less time trying to get her right and spent too much time smoothing out the planes i already drew on her.. yet she is still not perfect in my drawing compared to her photo awuuuuuuuuuu

Ahh a little messier than last time, i need to sleep but i had to get some practice in. It's weird how everyone draws women with "natural make up" on (lets face it, people don't have that perfectly defined eyes and perfect glossy lips..) but when it comes to actual visible make up (obvious to people who don't know how make up works or looks like), it's hard to draw correctly! D:

The colors were really off, this was a difficult picture because the lighting was a little yellow/green/blueish and i just couldn't pick the right colors by hand TuT ( I don't use color picker tool for these)

This is not a tutorial! I am not a shoe maker! I do not design shoes for a living! DO NOT COPY THESE, I don't know what I am doing! If you have problems DRAWING heels, i HIGHLY recommend you look up photos! Most shoe stores online organize their shoes by heel height already, easy peasy boys and girls!
Here's a great example!

There are lots of things i didn't cover, like you must walk heel to toe or your shoes are no good. But if you must run for an emergency always run toe to toe unless you're in a low or sufficiently chunky heel. Better just avoid situations with running if you're in tall heels really.

This is just quick messy ugly chart of things I thought about in college regarding shoes. I kind of really got into heels then, because i realized that liking "girly" stuff didn't lessen my nerd cred (Yes, you can like girly things AND nerdy things, human brains are not limited to liking only one type of thing, DURRRR).

Anyway, i just gotta say lots of professional people design really dumb ass shoes for their characters. No doubt they have never worn heels in their life or they would stop that.

Stop it now.

It was a very quick speed paint type thing so i'm not too concerned about it looking finished, though i wish i defined her dress more. I didn't want to spend too much time or it'd start to get stiff. I am trying to understand how to make values correct in pictures, because my paintings tend to read too flat T_T

It is actually inspired by my gaia online avatar at the time LOL, you can probably guess at least a few of the items if you are a frequent user.

One major error i made was her guts spilling out, the wound is too high for them to spill out I think! D:

Well since people told me to stop holding back even if things seemed stupid I decided to spent a part of today drawing the bases for two characters. They aren't like "OC"s or anything, just some people i might use to draw to practice when i can't think of anything. There's one more that's older than both of them but I never settled on a design for her. All i know is she has 4 eyes. Whatevs.

Anyway I did this because I needed to come up with better outfits for them so I can just draw over these. These were also a test to see if i could do more simple shading and still look good. eh. The line art is astill pretty slap dash, i don't like doing formal lineart anymore (unless it's going ot be b/w), but i can't find a good way to do it quickly without it looking messy either..

If you want to play around and dress them up feel free to, just send me what you come up with XD. The unicorn is a mage/magic user who is kind of shy. The demon is a fighter who is the opposite, as in not shy at all and will do what she wants because she's super naturally strong. Woop di doo. Oh and time period or whatever i dunno, just not modern day jeans or t-shrits, either fantasy or futuristic or even cyberpunk i dunnoooo

edit: Different body types, how does them LOL. I get scared of drawing figures larger because they aren't what is normatively "pretty" and i keep wittling them down to make them skinnier, ARG!!

Here are the fastest part of drawing: concept thumbs, rough as hell sketch, basic tones. This is only one of the ways i paint though, the other is to paint in colors from the beginning. But I find it helps me to start with b/w for more complicated pictures so i'm not over whelmed at first. And when i start with b/w i don't have to do a really clean sketch first for some reason XD.

Everything is really rough right now so anatomy and whatever is still wrong there's probably not much to critique other than over all composition. right now i can say there's too much white around the wings and too dark on the other side so that's going to get messed with as i go along. Will probably change a lot as i work i imagine B|

Study of tonight is figures from a cool online tool i found: [link] Unfortunately there isn't much variety in terms of models but i only ran into one duplicate photo the whole time.

This is 25% of the full size, the top two rows were 2 minutes, the middle two rows are 5 mins and the last two was however long i felt lol.

I still haven't gotten shading quickly and efficiently v_v

Here is a page of hands, just using a lamp and a mirror for some poses. Lol. I need to practice more, I still don't understand the underlying structure in my brain i think.

❥❥❥Hands are one of the hardest things to draw, but also one the easiest things to practice because well, you have two of them in front of you. Okay you have to use one of them to draw, but the OTHER hand you can draw in any pose you need, especially with a mirror.

So, what's your excuse for not drawing hands?

Why this is trying to get into the #Improvement-Club? Because I want people to remember to practice, even if it's boring, and not to hide your hands because you have them right there!
