I watched the first 11 episodes of the anime last weekend, and that lead to me catching up on the manga (vol 13 to current). My love for Magi is rekindled so it's time for some fanart!

This is my first time drawing Magi simply because I want to (I drew Hakuei for secret santa before), and all along I thought it would be Sinbad, or Alibaba, or Kougyoku because I've loved those three the most for a long time. But I couldn't stop looking at vol. 16's cover >///< He was in my head so had to draw him =] ]]>

It's February 4th!! Fire Emblem: Awakening is officially here! Sure there were the early releases and now the delays, but this date has been ingrained in my head ever since it was announced, so it's still pretty exciting, right?

And of course, this marks the end of my countdown. Didn't think this rambler could let this go just like that, did ya?

Reflecting on the past two weeks, I'm really glad that I took up this 'project', and stuck it out. I can't remember the last time I drew this much! It gave me a chance to draw some of my favorite characters that I've just always been too lazy to before, to reminisce on these games, and to re-experience the emotions they brought. Despite all my talk, I felt that this was the first time I was able to really show my love and support for the series.

And speaking of worthwhile, I couldn't possibly forget all the Fire Emblem fans I got to talk to as a result! Thank you guys for all the comments you left, I enjoyed every single conversation =]

you mentioned you like semi realism so I tried, and used real photo references for the shading lol
I found it really hard to get the contrast right or use different colors... It was fun to paint though
and for some reason, his hair is really hard and I couldn't get it right T_T

yup just looked up the voice actors for the Japanese version of fire emblem awakening and thrilled at some of the cast.

I don't actually know many seiyuus cuz just recently start paying attention to them, but some of my favorites are in this game. Besides Krom...

1. My unit: can select Toru Okawa, Roy from FMA!!

2. Frederick: Ono Daisuke, Sebastian from Kuroshitsuji, Shizuo from Drrr

3. And most importantly, Ronku is Takehito Koyasu!!!!!!! This is the guy that got me interested in voice actors to begin with! cuz he was Himuro sensei in Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side 1. He was Navarre in the Fire emblem anime and now he's back as another myrmidon - one of my favorite classes. Ran/ Aya from Weiss Kreuz.

So what's my point? I've always thought that FE Awakening would be the reason I end up getting a 3DS, but now I'm really worried about the North American localization. Are they really going to replace these awesome voices??? If past anime and game dubbings are any indication, it's going to be horrendous. It hurts just thinking about it. It would be amazing if they they could just supplement the original voices with subtitles...

If nothing else, the translations better be top-notch. Even if I'm a little apprehensive, can't wait for this game

I have been rewatching the series ever since reading Konomi Takeshi's Moonwalker Ltd. one-shot. (Also love Sorachi Hideaki's oneshot Bankara! both were part of a series of oneshots by popular mangaka in shonen jump)

I didn't pay much attention to Yagyuu the first time I watched it years ago, but this time, I just love Rikkaidai Xd

I also copied the atmosphere cuz I wanted to try some different colors but needed the reference!!! T__T

I'm not actually into vocaloids, obviously I was trying to appeal to the crowd, not that it worked T_T

I didn't sleep at all the night before Anime North, working on this (which ended up greatly impacting my energy level the whole weekend, so not worth it), only to hate it with a passion when I got it printed. I wasn't all that pleased even as I was working on it (the emptiness in the eyes, coarseness of the hair, etc) but on paper it looks so incredibly unrefined, and worst of all, the hand I labored over was way out of proportion T___T

I kept thinking I would fix it before posting, but at this point, I don't think so, therefore, here it is. ]]>

Hehe another lovely kiss scene that I found, this time in ZIG*ZAG by Yuki Nakaji… well the pose is referenced, some changes in character design though… for no logical reason (XD) I was kinda embarrassed working on this in plain sight ><

Some advertising… or rather word-spreading: well I’ve been reading a lot of shoujo (lame-o *_*) Anyway, Yuki Nakaji’s mangas are really quite funny and cute… Venus in Love was pretty long, I didn’t read the whole thing (cuz the guy I liked became a minor character by vol. 3 or so T.T) This picture was referenced off ZIGZAG’s Sono Kirihara and a girl (I don’t know her name since it’s not been translated into English yet) who didn’t like him at first and left a bad impression but then started chasing him furiously (in love I mean). This couple is much more interesting than the main one

I’ve also bee kinda obsessed with HWANG MI RI manhwa. You might say her stuff are all pretty similar, but they are a lot of fun to read nevertheless! I highly recommend it if you do read shoujo, you'll be entertained for hours (and beyond)!

The character design is not exactly stable at the moment, but here are the basics:

The story essential revolved around the girl... I haven't come up with suitable names yet XD

It begins in modern day, I'll probably stick with China. An ancient tomb is found but the corpse (this girl) is preserved perfectly. She is delivered over to scientists who are interested in discovering the secret behind this body. Taken out of the coffin, she wakes up and escapes into the world outside the lab (with help of course). The problem is she has no memory of her life before "death". Somehow she is able to adapt quickly to modern society but gains memory of an alternate identity (i.e. wrong memory, not her real one). She decides to become a police officer, and things develop from there (e.g. love (the guy) (actually, not initially), friendship...)

Are we supposed to give the whole story or just character backgrounds?

Age: apparently 24
And what is the secret? It's sci-fi. She comes from elsewhere in the galaxy which developed long before earth. There are fine-tuned machinary inside people from there (almost like engineered to perfection). Because of the machines, she cannot die normally, usually just hiberates. But she is still possesses human emotions and conditions.

So she fell down to earth 2000 (?) years ago. At that time, her memory was reset. She was taken in by some person and recruited into labor and later prostitution. She escapes and becomes involved with rebels against the emperor. This is where the guy in the picture (2000 years ago) comes in. Because of the machines inside her, she learned fast, and volunteered to go undercover into the palace. More rising action and she thinks she's in love with the general. The leader of the rebel also cares for her. She eventually gets killed at the hands of the general....

Then it's modern day... and the point is that history is not repeated though the same characters are present (for the most part).

I was planning to draw this on paper but then I spilt water all over my sketch!! (this idiot also spilt water on her calculator and spent 30 min drying it -__-) and when I tried tracing it, somehow it didn't look quite the same, so again I had to color without lines T__T (cuz I can't seem to do lineart digitally)

I think the flowers are lavender, but I'm not sure because the flowers drawn in the in manga don't exactly look like lavender to me... but the manga says the flowers are purple (caught this information after five read throughs XD also thought she was blond until recently when I finally caught Ludwig commenting on her silver hair T__T all the color images were grayscale in the scanlation too! in any case, looks like I don't read carefully enough)

Anyway, lavender in flower language means devotion and distrust, which kinda fits her story cuz she's the only princess Ludwig actually loves and she couldn't believe in her own beauty and abilities because people said they were gifts from the 12 witches

Someone tell me how to draw a flower field and still make them look like flowers please!!

I think I might be late, since the contest was already closed. But the deadline was June 24 and I completely forgot about the time zone difference, so I just went according to my North American time, by which it's on time.
I really hope you'll still accept it because I did put a lot of work into it. If you look through my gallery, you can see that I've literally never drawn so many details and folds in my life. I only found out about the contest two days ago and yesterday my family suddenly decided to spend the day out so I had no time to draw.

Anyway, I wish you happy birthday nonetheless!

Onto the drawing itself:

I can finally relate to people who condemn their scanners for killing the colors. Ok my scanner in the past wasn't very good either, but I thought that if I colored dark enough, it wouldn't be affected too much. Well I certainly pressed hard enough this time, but all the colors got kind of muddy after scanning not to mention much lighter. Next, forgive my tactless abuse of photoshop brushes >.<! I wanted to just paste a photo in the background but then making the background transparent would take too much time XP Besides, this hides some of the hideous folds of the dress. I forgot to add more butterflies T.T

I think I might be late, since the contest was already closed. But the deadline was June 24 and I completely forgot about the time zone difference, so I just went according to my North American time, by which it's on time.
I really hope you'll still accept it because I did put a lot of work into it. If you look through my gallery, you can see that I've literally never drawn so many details and folds in my life. I only found out about the contest two days ago and yesterday my family suddenly decided to spend the day out so I had no time to draw.

Anyway, I wish you happy birthday nonetheless!

Onto the drawing itself:

I can finally relate to people who condemn their scanners for killing the colors. Ok my scanner in the past wasn't very good either, but I thought that if I colored dark enough, it wouldn't be affected too much. Well I certainly pressed hard enough this time, but all the colors got kind of muddy after scanning not to mention much lighter. Next, forgive my tactless abuse of photoshop brushes >.<! I wanted to just paste a photo in the background but then making the background transparent would take too much time XP Besides, this hides some of the hideous folds of the dress. I forgot to add more butterflies T.T

Anyway, the request was a vampire character. I know, there are no vampire features in the picture T_T I just couldn’t pull off fangs and long nails without making it look gay X| (but the pose is still kinda T.T)

Lol I don’t know if any of you recognize, but I kinda took the cross embedded in the chest from Immortal Rain (aka Meteor Methuselah… it’s pretty awesome ^^ I wanna read more of it)

I wanted to finish the picture for her birthday… and I did finish the lineart a few days before but I wanted to color it. Obviously it’s not colored… cuz I couldn’t find suitable colors >.< So it got delayed for nothing… anyway, I wanted to wish you happy birthday, too late now

The design is by ~KozueKaz, I only painted the sun parts and she did the moon and water. This is the first time I did something on such a huge scale (the board is maybe 1.5m X 1.5m?) but it was so much fun to just slap strokes on XD! Thanks for letting me work on it with you! It's kind of funny how the sun is always (I think) associated masculinity, and the moon as feminine, but it's really hard to tell here XD ]]> !
