First time I've ever shown off these guys... meet M.O.H.A.W.K. (a parody homage to two of my favourite villains, MODOK and the Mekon) and his gang of Anarchists: Steampunk, Squid Vicious, Mad Nancy and Blockhead. These were planned to be the Discotronic Funk Commandos villains in the first issue.

Boris Karloff as the Frankenstein Monster drawn using Procreate on the iPad. I was inspired to draw this after watching the original 1931 Univesral Frankenstein on Blu-Ray Karloffs performance in that movie makes him one of the all-time greats, and the definitive Frankensteins Monster.

Mindless Hulk

Who remembers this Hulk? Its the mindless version of the Hulk, as featured in Bill Mantlo and Sal Buscemas classic run on the Incredible Hulk (circa issues 299-313). After having finally gained control of the Hulk, Bruce Banner had finally found happiness and acceptance from the World at large... even getting pardoned from the Hulk's rampages by the President of the United States. However, this was not to last... as the demonic dream demon Nightmare caused the savage Hulk persona to awaken, causing Bruce Banner to lose control of the creature. Rather than sharing his existence with the savage Hulk persona again, Banner decided to commit psychic suicide. leaving this truly, mindless Hulk who debuted in INCREDIBLE HULK #299, and was banished by Dr. Strange to the Crossroads of dimensions in issue 300.

To celebrate what would have been Jack Kirby's 95th birthday... here is my own homage to INCREDIBLE HULK #1, published years ago in 1966 (using an update of my Gray Hulk image I posted a few days ago). This is for you, Jack!

UPDATE: Inspired by DeadDog2007's Battle Of the Hulks Wartorn Cover deviation, and using Enginemonkey's creased paper as an overly, I've also added a halftone overlay to give an aged, more authentic effect. Hope you all like it!

This is me presenting legendary WWE superstar Mick Foley with some of my original artwork back in February. This was during his Nights in Red Flannel comedy tour of the UK, at the Glee Club in Cardiff. The Hardcore Legend seemed genuinely over the moon with the artwork... and even told me a story of when he visited legendary comic artist Jon Buscema's art studio! This was a fantastic moment for me, and one I'll always treasure

Here's an old page from my Soulman Inc sketchbook.... the 1st image is inked loosely by hand (as featured in the actual book) and the second is inked using Manga Studio. Marvel UK purists will appreciate the slight browning of the image, which is akin to the paper quality used in the old 1970's Marvel UK MIGHTY WORLD OF MARVEL title.

Here's my attempt at some digital inking, over some original Sal Buscema pencils using Manga Studio. I'm loving the different comic-style brushes you can use in that program, and am really pleased with how this has come out. The pencils are from an unused Marvel Universe Handbook image by Sal, which I absolutely love! Special thanks to Eelco Veldhuizen for allowing me to post this, as he owns the original pencils. The lovely Kat Nicholson told me about a wonderful iPad app called Procreate, with which she has been producing some awesome pieces of artwork (check out Kat's page to see). So I decided to buy the app the other day... and I wasn't disappointed in the slightest!! Check out this piece I did last night... it allowed me to import and old piece of Sal Buscema Hulk art, to which I inked and coloured over it in a separate layer. I did this using a stylus, and my finger!! I'm still getting the hang of it, but this (and more so Kat's work) shows what you can do with it. I'd recommend the app to any of you guys... it's brilliant

Here is a recent commission I was asked to do by thedeviantmakepeace. Kevin, who commissioned me awhile ago to do a cover recreation of the Frank Miller/Al Milgrom cover to Incredible Hulk #258 (which you can see here) asked me this time to do an imaginary cover for Savage She-Hulk Annual #1... featuring the She-Hulk versus classic Hulk villains the U-Foes (who Kevin had me feature in the previous commission, replacing the Soviet Super-Soldiers). In Marvel continuity, it was the Hulk who first did battle with the U-Foes (in Incredible Hulk #254)... but for the purposes of this commission, Kevin asked if I could do a 'What-If' style cover, in which the She-Hulk is the first to battle the villainous U-Foes, who were created by Marvel Legend Bill Mantlo.

This cover was great fun to work on, but the thing that makes it so special for me is who Kevin commissioned to ink it.. none other than my all-time hero in comics, the legendary Sal Buscema!! Here is what Kevin wrote on his comicartfans gallery page:

"Seriously, how is it possible that Simon isn't drawing something for one of the big guys? Seriously!  

I've loved Simon's Bronze Age look since I first saw it. Such a wonderful mix of the Buscema's styles. Sal's poses and John's curved lines. After the first commission that I got from him (the Hulk cover) turned out so well I knew that one day I'd want to ask for something else. A few months back he and I started talking about just what that'd be. I forget what I originally suggested but it very quickly came to She-Hulk vs. the U-Foes (Vector, Vapor, Ironclad and X-Ray). Simon stepped up to the plate and went for a full cover. A long lost original cover for She-Hulks first annual. At the time I was only able to go with the pencils but still, ~man~, was it a good looking piece of work.  

Things changed and I was able to look into getting it inked and, with Simon's approval (and a big grin on his face) I approached Sal Buscema about inking it. I'm also a big fan of Sal's and he created the Foes along with Bill Mantlo during their great Hulk run. Sal agreed and not only turned out a great piece of work but also talked about how much he liked Simon's work. Sal's a class act, as is Simon. Now if I can only hit the lottery and have them do the rest of the book ...

To say that having Sal ink my work is a dream come true... well, that is a huge understatement... but to hear that he likes my work as well really means so much to me. I'd like to say a big thank you to Sal not only for the kind words, and also for the many years of joy and inspiration that his work has given me. Plus the stella job he did inking this piece as well. Plus of course, big BIG thanks to Kevin for making this happen!

And Kevin... if ever you do win that lottery, it would be my pleasure to draw the rest of the book...

Here is one of my favourite pages from my recent Hulk vs Death's Head strip, as presented in Panini/Marvel UK's MARVEL HEROES #33.
At the point in the strip, the Hulk is starting to get REALLY angry at Death's Head (as you can see in panel 4... which is one of my all-time favourite panels). Note to Death's Head: don't make him angry... you wouldn't like him when he's angry, yes?

Marvel Heroes issue 33 - Cover

Now, this really is a dream come true for me... I never thought in a million years I would be lucky enough to draw this, an OFFICIAL battle between Death's Head and the Incredible Hulk!! This is the cover to Marvel Heroes #33, which features the long-awaited return of the original Death's Head.
Getting to draw both of my favourite characters in one strip is a dream come true in itself... but to be part of the return of Death's Head, a character I've been petitioning to bring back ever since I broke into drawing comics professionally... well, I can't put into words how special that is to me! Big, BIG thanks to Marvel Heroes editor Ed Hammond for making this happen! All Death's Head fans should write in, and give this man a big thank you, yes?

Marvel Heroes #33 is out NOW in all good UK Newsagents, yes? UK fans and friends... if you want to see this strip in the US, write in, or email those great folks at Marvel US that you want, no... NEED to see this strip!! There is every chance that they'll reprint the story for you guys if there is enough demand....

Otherwise Death's Head will come around your house, and rip up all of your Deadpool comics.....

Here is a page from my upcoming Incredible Hulk strip for Marvel UK, which features the return of DEATH'S HEAD!!

Now, if you've been following my work you'll know that whilst the Incredible Hulk my all-time favourite character, I am also a huge Death's Head fan as well (second all-time favourite, yes?). Since breaking into the comics business in 2003, I have regularly asked (pestered, yes?) the editors at Panini/Marvel UK to bring back the freelance peacekeeping agent, who last appeared in a Marvel UK title back in the early 1990s. So as you can imagine... this is not only a dream come true for me, but a HUGE accomplishment as well.

So there you have it.. the strip will appear in issue 33 of Marvel Heroes, available March 24th 2011 at all good UK newsagents (and if you're an overseas fan, write to them great folks at Marvel US and tell them you want to see this strip!! If enough of you ask there is a very good chance it'll be reprinted over there as well!).

Bayformer Death's Head

What if Death's Head appeared in one of the Michael Bay TRANSFORMERS movies? I had the urge to do some doodles last night when that idea popped into my head, and this is what I came up with.

I'm really pleased with this design... and I personally think I could get away with using it myself one day, as the more I worked on it, the farther away from Death's Head it went. Anyways, hope you like it

Here's yet another page from my Hulk strip, as featured in Marvel Heroes #25. I'm really pleased with this one... especially the transformation panel at the bottom. In the script, panel 4 was to show Banner's eyes glowing green... signaling his metamorphosis into the Hulk, then panel five just showing an angry Hulk! But I decided to use some initiative, and draw a transformation sequence instead to make the story flow better. And I'm glad I did... as it's worked out really well

Here's another page from my recent Spidey strip from Marvel Heroes #24, where Spidey teams up with Shang-Chi to fight LOTS of Ninjas, plus the deadly Lady Deathstrike! When I was given this script to do, I just knew that I had to base Shang on my all-time hero, the late, great Bruce Lee... and used a sequence from Enter The Dragon as inspiration for panels 1, 2 and 4. Of course... no-one could possibly capture the grace and skill of the legendary man himself

Here is the corner box artwork to Clear Vision's Original Spider-man - season 2, volume 2. With each cover, I'm asked to do a comic style corner box piece, featuring a character from one of the episodes. I drew up a rough from the Spider-man vs the Mole Men episode, which featured a giant Mole Man statue, plus what i can only describe as little green Munchkin-type characters!! Clear Vision seemed to like it, so they told me to go ahead with it!

Unlike the previous season, this time I got to use a classic Spidey villain... the Lizard!! This was especially cool, as the Lizard is one of my favourite Spidey villains

Here is my artwork for Clear Vision's SPIDER-WOMAN DVD. This was originally intended to be the cover... but Clear Vison decided to use another of my images as the cover instead, as it was felt that that one was more like the cartoon version, as opposed to my more detailed image here.

Pencils and colours by me, with inks by the legendary Joe Rubinstein.

This is my cover to the upcoming SOULMAN INC SKETCH BOOK: THE COMIC ARTWORK OF SIMON WILLIAMS.... which features the FULL 17 page battle between the Incredible Hulk and Death's Head (the first few pages which are featured in my DA gallery). This piece was pencilled and coloured by myself, with inks by the great Joe Rubinstein!!

Hulk Vs Thor

This is a piece that I was commissioned to do by Michael Finn for his awesome 'One Minute Later' collection, which are commissioned pieces of existing comic covers by professional comic artists, but with the events taking place 'one minute later' than the original. This particular piece is based on Marvel Comic's Journey Into Mystery #112, featuring an all-time classic battle between the Mighty Thor and the Incredible Hulk... drawn by Jack 'The King' Kirby.
This piece is something of a dream come true for me, as it's inked by one of my all-time favourites, comic legend Joe Rubinstein. Joe is an absolute legend in the business, and one hell of a nice guy.
