A promo-image concept for the (still) nameless manga me and ~kandinsky-prince are pitching.
I had the concept for this image flash into my head as I was drifting off to sleep the other night. I had to very quickly wake myself up to do a sketch in case I forgot it. Possibly the trickiest poses I've drawn in a long time, they seriously needed photo refferencing. In the end I was taking pictures of my house-mate, half naked and hanging upside down across the stairs, with another house-mate holding onto his legs XD XD The photo-composite I made to reference off is hilarious.

EDIT: I've changed the cell shading around Enda's chin area after ~Tentopet pointed out that it wasn't very well defined (or at all definied in fact XD) Thanks!

This is another image I produced for Tokyopop ^_^ This time of my own accord, just to help the pitch along. I came up with the concept while lying in bed before going to sleep... glad I remembered it later because it really sums up a lot of elements of the story nicely. Crits appreciated, since I don't regard this as finished yet. I think it's the first time I've ever done something quite like it, with no linework, and not much shading. This small version of it doesn't really do the details on the characters justice.
I'm also interested to know what peiople think of the way the text is done. Suggestions appreciated ^_^

New Sample Spread

After showing those last sample pages to my editor, there were a few suggestions on how to improve. The main crits were the line strength, and the closed panels.
I sorted out the issues with this page. I've moved back to pencil as well, since for me it produces a much more delicate line, and I'm a lot more confident with it. I'm pleased with the result, since I was slightly uncomfortable with the finished effect of the other pages. More to come from the sequence

Unfortunately though, the name of the project is having to change. Seems like 'Rolighed' just sounds too confusing & foreign.
Current ideas from our end are:
Passerine,
Kite (shame there's an anime of the same name),
The Ivory Cage
&
Bone Cage.
Suggestions & comments welcome!

Next Sample Spread

Here's the next spread (there'll be one more, then the sequence we chose will be completed) of our as yet nameless manga I went a bit more detailed on the tone, because I thought it suited the linework better. I'll update the tone of the first page to match
Current thoughts on the name: Bonesong. Anyone like? (I would have prefferred Bodysong, but theres a relatively well known experimental film of the same name *growl* coming up with names is a bitch.)

EDIT: I've changed the last two panels to make the layout a bit more dynamic, and to sort out some drawing problems

Last Sample Spread

Here's page 6 and 7 I'm getting a little faster on the linework and toning now. This one probably took me about 6-9 hours in total (including thumbnailing), so a decent day's work.
I'll send the finished spreads over to tokyopop on monday, see what they think

This is a conceptual mock-up of a still from my final animation project The whole thing will hopefully look something like this (but better ). It also happens to be a short chunk from the storyline I'm working on with ~kandinsky-prince that we've submitted to Tokyopop as a full length pitch. I added the typography to make it look a little more like a poster

Except on the seventh day he rested to watch pretty boys fighting.
Then he said! Ye! Let there be virtual light sources and much batch rendering!
And it was good.

All maya, and actually no light sources. All the lighting was drawn directly onto the textures. I'm FINALLY done with this =_= It's taken me 7days (not completely solid) work, but I'm pretty pleased with it It's going to be a background for my final animation... See if anyone can guess what the room is a homage to? I'll give a free something-or-other to anyone who does

Hey everyone ^_^ Just wanna say a *massive* thanks to everyone who came along and critted this image when I put it up. You guy's really helped. I managed to take on board and fix almost all of the crits that were given, and now I feel a lot more confident handing it in

For anyone who hasn't seen it before, this is a business card image. It'll be folded in half (the side with the figure on being the front), and the sort of faint, seethrough pattern you can see over the top is the mask for a varnish layer that's being printed over the top Hopefully it sholuld look quite cool! ^_^

Enda new rolighed designs

Kate and I finally got a chance to talk to our editor at tokyopop, this time in person! He gave us some suggestions regarding the character design, and a few story details, but other than that, liked the idea and is willing to push it forward! Exciting news for us These are my new character designs based on his suggestions. I tried to make them more bird-like, and less angelic, using the extra feathers, and also by trying to make his postures slightly awkward and like those of a bird. They came out a bit camp, but oh well, Enda's androgynous! XD

...had to copyright this one since it now matters a bit more.

Sarah from the (hopefully) upcoming story, Rolighed ^_^ (same as the animation, and the enda designs). Just some quick character concepts to get a feel for drawing her. I just submitted this in the absence of anything else. I've got a few other designs I'm working on that might be up in a while too.

The Name-Taker

This is a design for the Name-Taker.... a secondary character in the manga ~kandinsky-prince and I are pitching to Tokyopop... I've used Enda's "skin clothes" motif to a more extreme extent, literally making the name taker part of his own environment. His self-imposed job is to write down the names of every human who is born, and erase the names of every human who dies.
He's a pretty jaded individual X3

There's an editorial meeting tonight, to decide on the future of the pitch >< I'm nervous as hell.

This is an updated character sheet from Brennen (or Bren for short), the guy from the manga ~kandinsky-prince and I are pitching to Tokyopop. I realised that it had been a long time since I'd produced a design sheet for Bren, and the last one I did was hideously out of date, which is why he was a little wtf in terms of continuity during the sample pages.
