Recently, I got a rather unusual request, at least in light of the fact that virtually everything I do on this site is related to ponies. Someone asked to to draw their OC... their Total Drama Island OC, hanging out with Noah. This brings me back to the time when I sort of liked TDI and I particularly liked to interpret those characters in my own way.

It was a fairly simple commission; not too many bells and wistles and it was kind of fun to convert her OC to my art style. So, here it is, Alyssa the OC TDI girl and Noah, just chillin'. I'm still not sure whether their interaction is supposed to be romantic or not, I guess it's up to the viewer to decide.

For the first time, I received an e-mail with an order to deliver an RPS; a real physical sketch, one of the products of my commissions program. The sender, Thomas, asked me to draw "humanized Twilight Sparkle", not being very specific about the context, ergo, I was free to do as I pleased.

I contemplated doing a bust or a full body shot, and decided to go for the latter. I took my inspiration from this paining, a portrait of Napoleon Bonaparte which depicts him in the middle of the night as if the painter "interrupted" him during his work.
Since I had the sneaking suspicion that this drawing would end up in some sort of physical display, I decided to go with that. Instead of Napoleon, it's Twilight who takes time from her nightly studies to pose for her visitor.

My suspicions were right as Thomas received the drawing in the mail today, and he was kind enough to put some pictures on Flickr. I find this highly fascinating.

Might color this, but for now, I'll present you the back and white sketch.

For those that watch my Livestream session, it may have occurred to you that the co-host, =Czarine-the-Restless, has commissioned me to make him a cover for a DVD he's releasing, showing footage of him and his friends setting off a collective sum of about €3,000.00 worth of fireworks during this year's new year celebration.

For those not residing in the Netherlands, it should be noted that for the Dutch, fireworks mean serious business during new year's. While I did not have the opportunity to set them off myself, I watched as Rotterdam became shrouded in the smoke of the beautiful lights that continued to illuminate the already perpetually glowing night sky of the city till deep in the night.

So basically, since he wanted to have five people on a canvas of 12 x 12 centimeters, I had to be careful with the space, especially with the fact in mind that a title would be added later on. I ended up mixing Mythbusters with a background loaded with explosions and fireworks (I know, a task that is virtually impossible). Basically it's =Czarine-the-Restless and his friends looking all, well, serious, with the notable exception for the guy in the far right.

This was definitely a very nice commission to work on. Essentially, =CDB2 asked me to draw Azula "looking at the viewer with her smug grin", okay, that was paraphrased, but hey, that doesn't neglect that it's fun.
