Someone asked to to draw their OC... their Total Drama Island OC, hanging out with Noah. This brings me back to the time when I sort of liked TDI and I particularly liked to interpret those characters in my own way.<br /><br />It was a fairly simple commission; not too many bells and wistles and it was kind of fun to convert her OC to my art style. So, here it is, Alyssa the OC TDI girl and Noah, just chillin'. If that seems a bit random to you; it is a reference to <a class="external" href="http://www.deviantart.com/users/outgoing?http://youtu.be/ZffTZ-Qc-JU">this YouTube clip</a>.<br /><br />It was a somewhat odd request, but an excellent excuse to draw pony ponies again (opposed to humanized ponies). Also, I never <i>really</i> drew Derpy Hooves before, so that was a very welcome extra bonus. The sender, Thomas, asked me to draw "humanized Twilight Sparkle", not being very specific about the context, ergo, I was free to do as I pleased.<br /><br />I contemplated doing a bust or a full body shot, and decided to go for the latter. I took my inspiration from <a class="external" href="http://www.deviantart.com/users/outgoing?http://www.schoolwerkbladen.nl/leerlingen/geschiedenis/afbeeldingen/napoleon2.jpg">this paining</a>, a portrait of Napoleon Bonaparte which depicts him in the middle of the night as if the painter "interrupted" him during his work.<br />Since I had the sneaking suspicion that this drawing would end up in some sort of physical display, I decided to go with that. Instead of Napoleon, it's Twilight who takes time from her nightly studies to pose for her visitor.<br /><br />My suspicions were right as Thomas received the drawing in the mail today, and he was kind enough to <a class="external" href="http://www.deviantart.com/users/outgoing?http://www.flickr.com/photos/62057148@N02/sets/72157626757952323/with/5796514802/">put some pictures on Flickr</a>. Peach, Daisy and Rosalina are exploring the sea bed to study <strike>friendship</strike> the local flora and fauna, including the rare blue and yellow shells.<br /><br />Personally, I really like how my recent anatomy studies translate in these character designs. I also like the overall tone of the image; it really feels like it takes place underwater. While I did not have the opportunity to set them off myself, I watched as Rotterdam became shrouded in the smoke of the beautiful lights that continued to illuminate the already perpetually glowing night sky of the city till deep in the night.<br /><br />So basically, since he wanted to have five people on a canvas of 12 x 12 centimeters, I had to be careful with the space, especially with the fact in mind that a title would be added later on. I ended up mixing Mythbusters with a background loaded with explosions and fireworks (I know, a task that is virtually impossible). He basically asked me to do my take on his franchise, The 3 Aqua Princesses, in line with the Mario fandom's long standing tradition of copying =<a class="u" href="http://thebourgyman.deviantart.com/">TheBourgyman</a>'s naming convention.<br /><br />Also, =<a class="u" href="http://zefrenchm.deviantart.com/">ZeFrenchM</a> tells me that I should mention that he totally thinks Daisy is his favorite princess, yes, he is listening to me on Skype as I type this. Also, the fact that it's three girls in wetsuits might have provided the necessary extra motivation. Essentially, =<a class="u" href="http://cdb2.deviantart.com/">CDB2</a> asked me to draw Azula "looking at the viewer with her smug grin", okay, that was paraphrased, but hey, that doesn&#039;t neglect that it&#039;s fun.<br /><br />It wasn&#039;t until now that I realized that I never did a proper fan art of Azula. Sure, I&#039;ve drawn her more times than is probably healthy, but never did I sit down and really drew her, and no, Artrix&#039;s take on Avatar doesn&#039;t really count.<br /><br />I suppose the plaques behind her are for some decade overview thing.
