This piece, along with whole series, is a part of my master's degree project in graphics.<br /><br />This piece in particular is something I wouldn't usually post on DA. It's been directly inspired by this photo <a href="http://porcelainpoet.deviantart.com/art/Geisha-II-135476350">[link]</a> - which is a part of a really great session. I don't usually draw something that's so close to my inspiration, but in this case I was in a hurry and this photo was a great influence. I did copy some parts of flowers pretty directly (or, well, tried to), but her face and the rest of it is 100% original, no ref used. <br /><br />For those catching little details - yes, at some places between pieces in these series I re-used some elements. I painted a few flower sets and little details separately and, as I was really in a hurry with those, I just re-used them in different places. I didn't use any works that don't belong to me, of course. It was done over a month ago for a school project. Though I do love this theme and been reading about whole geisha culture since many years (I&#039;m known to collect hundreds books about this topic). I wonder why I actually have so few pictures showing this.. Well, maybe that will change. And yes, I didn&#039;t follow the exact image of traditional geisha on purpose. I just wanted to have some fun with this theme.<br /><br />Anyway. Pencil sketch and Photoshop CS2 + Painer XI (linework, it&#039;s so much better for linework). When I finished this pencil sketch (it was based on one of my moleskine sketches) I was clueless about what would fit the background best. There were people asking about it - for my MA I'm doing more line-based, flat kind of illustrations, as my whole work is for graphic design, not painting or drawing classes. Some asked if I'm changing my style - well, no. I just never sticked to one. I always liked painting something semi-realistic and then drawing something more abstract. Variety is what keeps me going when I'm uninspired. But in the end the diploma was coming, I didn't have enough time and it ended up as it is. Not too fond of it, but uploading it here so the series are complete.
