Wolf Fight - Old

This picture was originally created back in 2005, November 16 to be exact, (the date is penciled in on the back of the paper).

It has the pretty much the same story as the other image I uploaded to my Scrapbook a couple years ago.

A few years back, I went through my DevART gallery and deleted a bunch of my older work, this piece included. At some point before this mass deletion, someone had either saved this image to their computer or reuploaded it elsewhere on the net which has made it a target of art theft. I know of at least one case where it's been reused and reposted without any credit whatsoever to me as the original artist. Art thieves are such a pain sometimes...

So, I am reuploading this so I have a proof link while reporting the various cases of art theft I have had brought to me concerning this picture. This new upload has been labeled with my two current watermarks to deter future theft.

Looking at this picture really drives home the fact of how much I've improved over the years. I have a much higher quality scanner now than I did back then too.

Foil Doggy - WIP

This is the same piece as seen in this photo, but now it has been wrapped in aluminum foil:

Aluminum foil has two uses, one of which is fleshing out your sculpture so that you don't have to go through quite as much clay per each sculpture, but the second and even more important reason is that it gives your clay a place to "grip." If you tried to form the clay on just the armature wire, it would be pulling away and falling off during the sculpting process. Very annoying. This is why it is important to make sure that the foil completely covers the extent of the legs and around the ends of the paws as well as to the end of the tail.

The only reason the foil does not go to the end of this sculpture's tail is because it is going to be a short-tailed wolf and that excess wire will be docked before the clay is applied.

Wire Doggy - WIP

Many people have been asking me what my wire armature inside my sculptures looks like. I use florist's wire for my armatures which can be found at craft stores in the floral section.

And I always use a continuous piece of wire for the armature. I start with the head do each of the front legs, the back, hind legs, the tail, then clip the wire. The only time that I use more than one piece of internal armature wire for a sculpture is when I am making one with wings but I would like to try my hand at keeping with a single piece of wire for that too because it would keep things a little more stable for me during the sculpting process.

Okay, I have no idea what category something like this would fall into... hopefully I found something at least somewhat appropriate.

Yes, I just may have finally lost it. Perhaps I spent too long browsing the online meme generator this evening or maybe I've finally watched one animal documentary too many. Or perhaps it is both of those things combined with the late hour. Whatever it is, I am in the middle of watching a nature movie/documentary titled "Animals Are Beautiful People." It's kind of an older documentary but the narrator has some pretty hysterical lines he delivers throughout. The film had been eliciting some light chuckles from myself but when the narrator came to the part with Daddy ostrich's nest guarding heroics versus that brazen native who's come to steal an egg, I just about lost it.

So, inspired, I decided to throw together a little something to commemorate it.

Image and quote taken directly from the film, "Animals Are Beautiful People." I claim nothing of this save for the composition of which I threw together in Photoshop.

Also, this film is currently available to stream direct from Netflix right now, so if you're a Netflix user, I highly recommend giving this hilarious old documentary a watch.

Knotwork Base Angle View - WIP

This is to be the base for a pair of sculptures that will all come together to become a wedding cake topper for one of my clients.

Now, I know I am not generally the type to publicly post WIP images but this one begged to be an exception to the rule.

I spent hours working out the knotwork for this then inking, markering, and painting it all in during the hottest bit of weather we've had so far this year and I would like to show off the fruits of my labors.

This started out as a 6" across wooden base. With a little mathematical help from my sister, I had it neatly quartered to a point where I was able to add a few more guide lines so I could lay in the groundwork for the structure of the traditional knotwork. Once that was done, I markered it in with a silver Sharpie marker, blacked in the empty spaces with black Sharpie, then set to work on the agonizing task of evening up and tidying all those lines with a fine pen. Lastly, I painted around the center, edges, and bottom of the disc with navy bluish acrylic paints making it fade to a lighter navy towards the center of the disc.

And luckily for me, there was still just enough of the late afternoon sun for me to go out and snap some quick pics of it. I still need to give it a nice thick coating of protective finishing spray but the high level of humidity today is preventing that so you will just have to appreciate its non-glossed glory for the time being.

Okay, here's the story on this ancient piece of artwork...

LOL Dogs - WIP Sculptures

A pair of custom sculptures for a current commission job. The one in the back is done being sculpted and the one in the foreground is clearly... not done.

Seriously though, that's what all my sculptures start out looking like if they've only gotten their first layer of clay on over the wire and aluminum foil. It takes more clay and a whole bunch of poking and prodding to get them all nice and filled out looking.

More skulls from my dresser... these ones being (back row), a beaver and a damaged deer skull as well as (front row) a blue jay and a grey fox.

The beaver is from *Zhon, the damaged deer was found by me and in that condition (I have a perfect specimen up in MI, I just need to get it from my aunt & uncle's house), the blue jay skull was sort of a "present" from family up in MI who'd found it then showed it to me where it was when I came to their house, and the grey fox was given to me by taxidermists I met in Indiana.

The small three-chain of bones are actually human finger bones from a right hand thumb. I was able to obtain these from The Bone Room's online site. If I ever get out to Berkely, CA, I am definitely hitting up this store. They have some cool stuff, both animal and human.

They are resting on scraps of deer and zebra hide that I got in a box of skulls from *Zhon.

Otter And Squirrel Skulls

More skulls... these are an elderly otter (mouth open) and a fox squirrel skull. On the far right in the back, you can see the backside of my fox skull and right in front of it is the back part of my female mallard skull.

I got the otter from *Zhon and the squirrel I found dead in a tree one day when I was out climbing. It was my first time out in that tree which was a accomplishment in itself, but when I found the dead squirrel (good squirrel skulls from the side of the road are nearly impossible to find since the skull is so delicate), I nearly fell out of the tree in excitement.

I accidentally lost one of the teeth while cleaning it, a fact that I'm still kicking myself for. >_<

The skulls are resting on a piece of scrap fur I got in a box from *Zhon. My guess is that it's from a deer in it's winter coat since it's so much longer an darker than the other fur I've seen on deer pelts.

Wolf And Co - Skulls

Another skull group. The larger skulls in the back are both canine, the one on the left a female wolf (my ultimate fave in my collection ) and the one on the right is a coyote.

Smaller skulls in the front row from left to right: bobcat, badger, and skunk.

All the skulls in this picture were obtained from *Zhon (go check out her sale items in her journal!) except for the badger skull, which was purchased as a gift for me by my best friend, ~lirimakat.

Also, the fur that they are all resting on is a fox squirrel named Buckley. I purchased him at a colonial convention in Michigan.

Wolf Moon - Nightlight

A picture not really focused on my skulls or anything but I liked the lighting in this picture so much I wanted to post it.

This is what sits in the center of one of my skull groupings, a nightlight featuring a wolf's face within a moon. It's really not 3-D at all, just a flat disc situated in front of a standard nightlight light bulb.

Other than the small amount of skull you can see in this pic, you can see my Kosen plush German shepherd pup on the far left and on the right is the Austrian-made German shepherd figurine my mom bought me for my birthday last year.

Dwarf Hamster Skull

Baby Rabbit And Weasel Skulls

More of my window skulls... The one on the far left is an elderly guinea pig, the next one is a baby rabbit, and the little sharp-toothed critters off on the right, are weasels. I've not been able to find if they're from long-tailed, short-tailed, or least weasels which has been rather disappointing.

All these skulls were harvested from bodies of animals that were already dead. I did not kill any of these animals.

Sascha And Kody

I've had Sascha the Steiff husky since last June but Kody the Build-A-Bear husky is a new addition and I've been meaning to get a picture of him posted here since I brought him home in November.

I hand stuffed Kody myself with my packmates, Kyle and Issa-ko, at the Build-A-Bear store so he's stuffed juuust right; not overstuffed but perfectly floppy.

My German Shepherd Army

Ah yes. I only have a few vices and collecting Playmobil animals is definately one of them. I love, love, love the German Shepherds that Playmobil has created and I take great joy in collecting them, naming them, etc...

I have eight so far, soon to be ten. Playmobil is releasing the white German Shepherds from the circus set in America this year and I'm planning on getting two.

As to names, the two dogs in the Police coats in the back are Chief Warren and Sagan (Sagan is the one with the light face).

The two dogs in the blue coats are from the super rare, only released in Germany set that ~Ambereye so kindly found for me. I can't thank you enough for this. Klaus is the brown dog and Kaiser is the black and tan.

The two dogs in the white medical coats are the females. Heidi is the all tan dog closer to the left of the picture and Elsie is the other.

Finally, the two dogs in Police coats in the foreground are Dominic (aka Dom) with the black muzzle and Axel, the irresponsible but lovable goof.

My Desk

And this is a picture of my desk. I would call it my "work-space" except that it isn't.

Instead of sitting at my desk like a nice, normal person to do my artwork and other activities, I prefer curling up on my bed or the floor. This includes sculpting and painting.

But yeah, this is my desk which at least serves as a nice "storage and display" area for my art tools and some other fun stuff.

Pencil Close-Up

So here's a picture of what I use for creating my artwork. This pictures shows off a few of my well-used pencils including my overworked colorless blender pencil (third down from the top). I'm constantly having to replace that and my warm grey 30% pencil. It's my most used of the colored ones. ^_^

Wolven Blood Battle

I was watching the Underworld movies at 's house and had this sudden urge to sketch somthing werewolfy and violent. She was nice enough to lend me her sketchbook and colored pencils and this picture is the result.

During my visit she had to go and take a shower and when she came back she showed me a nick that had happened while she was shaving and I stuck my finger into it and began smearing it across the picture. The red you see has a colored pencil base but the most of it is actual blood. Once I was satisfied, we placed the skecthbook under her bedroom lamp and snapped a picture before the blood had a chance to oxidize. Call me weird, call me morbid, but I love working in blood. This will be moved to scraps after a bit.

Fozzy is only two years old and the puppy of the three German Shepherds. He's already very big, so he'll be a huge dog once he's filled out. He clamors for attention and loves giving kisses. He gets so overenthusiastic when he's washing your face with his tongue that he's too rough and will end up knocking himself against your jaw. Not good considering how big he is, so he's encouraged not to lick faces but rather to sit down and be rubbed and petted. A hard lesson for an energetic pup, but he's learning. *pats him*

The second of three German Shepherds I dogsitted for. Brando is five years old and he has this lovely, thick reddish-orange coat and the most striking eyes I've seen for a German Shepherd. They're this light golden-green color and so startling when he stares directly at you, that you can't help but freeze in his gaze. And his tail, it's so floofy. I thought that the tails I draw on my dogs and wolves were exaggerated, but Brando's tail proves that extra floofy tails exist in real life too! ^_^

A German Shepherd I had the pleasure of dogsitting for recently. He's absolutely huge and wolf-like and he loves it when you scratch his head and back. He's quite old, around ten or eleven years I think it was, so he's deaf and going blind but he still has this air of dignity to him regardless.

This is going to be 's commissioned wedding cake statue based off of my "Kiss Me You Fool" picture. So far I'm having a bunch of fun so with this one as I've never turned one of my pictures into a 3-D model before. It's so cool watching it come to life!

Anyway, the male wolf is nearing completion, at least as far as the sculpting part. And that funny looking wad of aluminum will shape up to be his mate. I always start my sculptures with a wire frame and aluminum foil over top to fill out the body a bit. They do look so much better after adding clay though!

Heheh, yeah... conversations with Meggy-Chan are good for lots of things, inspiration being a very good one. We were talking about the packaging on a certain, uh... item and I began complaining about the pink wrapping. It's like, "I know I'm a girl, but do I have to put up with this?" Then there was some with light, powder-puff blue wrapping. Okay, okay, it's a little better than the pink wrapped ones but not much. So now this brilliant company is now wrapping these items in white wrapping, which in my opinion is just too pure for the task that they've been created for.

At this point Meggy-Chan says that they should just cut to the chase and make the wrappers on these red, since that's what we're dealing with here anyway. Yes, red wrappers with little dancing pandas parading across them. XD Had to draw this, plain couldn't resist. In fact, I'm tempted to print out a page and wrap up one of these "items" and leave it in the closet for one of my other female family members to find. Though there's also a chance of one of my brothers spotting it because of the "kiddie" wrapper and going, "Candy!" *snicker*

Okay, aside from that, this pattern makes a super desktop pattern for your computer and that's fine by me if you'd like to do that. However, if you're going to use this for any other purpose, please ask me first, kay? ^_^

This little cuteness was created by and has to be one of my favorite characters of hers. ^_^ His pose was inspired by some of my own poses when I curl up sometimes and his left shoulder was added in after a couple pointers from Meggy-Chan herself. Go and see her stuff, her artwork has been doing level jumps in experience lately; though her imagination has always been from a level beyond.

Bear Costume Furred WIP

Aaaand here's the bear with some fur and a leatherette nose that was painstakingly hand stitched onto him. *licks her poor, needle pricked fingers* I still need to finish up some loose edges with the fur, add a gumline, tongue, maybe some teeth, and eyes. So far so good and that fur is sooo soft, I luffs it. ^_^

This is my current big project at the moment. I'm making a fursuit/costume bear head with some matching paws to go with. He'll be listed on eBay once he's completed and I'm considering opening myself up for costume commissions in the future.

I was painting NightFire998's wolf sculpture today and thought it looked cool with just the head painted. So here it is, in a state of partial completion. ^_^ That ref sheet is for Katana1358's Anubis sculpture which was already done when I started this one. Pictures of the two completed sculptures should be up in the next couple days!
