I designed the first Boinic based on the released media image and found out after completing it and months later that Verizon would not go with the first design, looking for something a bit smaller. Did they get smaller? Not much. The specs below are outdated and for some other phone we never saw. A bit slower too. Oh well, it's still a great device and remains Verizon's flagship phone as of this posting.

If this is the direction high-power smartphones are going, I like what I'm seeing. Though the software's still a bit raw (there's no Android Market, for example), the Droid Bionics displayed at Motorola's CES event 10 weeks ago looked and felt pretty blazingly fast. A spokesman I chatted with said that Motorola is actually doing some manner of software optimization (and yes, it'll launch with 2.3) to take advantage of the two cores out of the box, so it's a promising start -- as Jha says, it's "2GHz of processing power." I hope that's true in practice! Along with a whopping 4.5" qHD display, this phone should end up being Verizon's flagship device when its released. [ Hands-On [link] ]

A 32GB model is available for a $50 premium. This pricing sets the Iconia Tab to be $100 and $150 cheaper than Apple’s iPad 2 for the same storage capacities. According to Web analytics company StatCounter, Google Chrome has surpassed Mozilla Firefox to become the second most used Web browser in the world after Internet Explorer. I’m always a bit wary about StatCounter’s claims, but I would be very surprised if Chrome didn’t overtake Firefox at some point. In the UK, Chrome bumped Firefox to the third place back in July 2011 (also according to StatCounter). Indeed, the trends are crystal clear. StatCounter’s research arm, StatCounter Global Stats, reports that Chrome took 25.7 percent of the worldwide market last month (up from a mere 4.66 percent in November 2009) compared to Firefox’s 25.23 percent.

Microsoft’s Internet Explorer maintains a strong lead with 40.63 percent globally (and even 50.66 percent in the United States), but the graph below shows both IE and Firefox declining fast. StatCounter says its statistics are based on aggregate data collected on a sample exceeding 15 billion page views per month (4 billion from the US) from a network of 3 million+ websites.

An addition this time around is a dedicated two-step camera shutter button on the right side complete with 2D / 3D switch to toggle 3D capture for photos and video. While a dedicated camera shutter button is great, I’d actually have preferred one a little smaller, as I hold the device in my right hand mainly when I’m using it and the shutter button can get in the way sometimes.

Regardless, I've added a modified version on Sense 3.0, hope you like it.

The Droid Charge is definitely a bit of a handful, as you'd expect with its 4.3-inch, 800 x 480 display. Still, I wouldn't call it a big phone by today's standards. It's .46-inches (12mm) at its thinnest, though it swells slightly in a little flare at the bottom (out to about 14mm). In celebration of the new Google social network, here ya go! The new black toolbar Google is currently rolling out across all its sites is just the beginning of the company’s new online sharing service, Google+. Google+ is Google’s answer to Facebook’s sharing features. It allows you to group your contacts into “Circles,” group message them with “Huddle” and group video chat with “Hangouts.” Google+ also includes quick photo and video uploads via Android, shared with any friend groups you choose. A new search feature, “Sparks,” will leverage all of this shared data and push the most-shared results to the top.

All of this ties into Google’s recently-launched +1 button, which will be the Google sharing ecosystem’s equivalent of a Facebook “like.” Google didn’t say whether Google+ will kill its previous flop of a sharing service, Google Buzz, or whether the two will be integrated. You should be able to check out Google+ for yourself soon.

But here's the real question: is it worth making an effort to snag it on either date? The Galaxy Tab 10.1, much like its Limited Edition sibling that we reviewed last month, is ever-so-slightly thinner than the iPad 2, a slate that most sane individuals (and competitors, for that matter) would confess is the market leader today.

Yet again.. I was looking for a high resolution Apple iCloud logo to use on a design I'm working on and couldn't find anything that was clean over 365x. I needed something that was more scalable, came in layers so I could manipulate the logo. Hope you guys find good use of it too. Free to use in anything, just credit and post me a link in the comments if you use it in your project. If this is the direction high-power smartphones are going, I like what I'm seeing. Though the software's still a bit raw (there's no Android Market, for example), the Droid Bionics displayed at Motorola's CES event 10 weeks ago looked and felt pretty blazingly fast. A spokesman I chatted with said that Motorola is actually doing some manner of software optimization (and yes, it'll launch with 2.3) to take advantage of the two cores out of the box, so it's a promising start -- as Jha says, it's "2GHz of processing power." I hope that's true in practice! Along with a whopping 4.5" qHD display, this phone should end up being Verizon's flagship device when its released. [ Hands-On [link] ]

UI Concept:
This is one of those devices I've been waiting for and to tribute this upcoming device, I've added a completely custom Droid Bionic User Interface based loosely one HTC's Sense UI. Let's face it. Sense UI is far better than anything Motorola is putting out at the moment. Chromed to the teeth and stylish in design. I hope you like it. Sorry Motorola.

Instructions: Because of the sheer size of this .PSD, it's important that download size and compression took place in .rar form. Without question, you can say for sure that Big Red is quite happy with the HTC ThunderBolt and honestly, it's a long time coming when you consider the fact that the HTC Droid Incredible has long been a staple on Verizon's lineup with no other HTC branded devices released for Verizon. Needless to say that one can argue that the HTC ThunderBolt is essentially Verizon's version of the HTC EVO 4G, but there are some specific differences that separate them. Design wise, I can't stop emphasizing the fact that the HTC ThunderBolt feels like a more polished version of the HTC EVO 4G since it sticks to using some premium quality materials to its construction. In fact, it has that solid metallic feel to it that doesn't make you question its resistance to the elements – which of course, feels vastly improved to the plastic construction of the EVO 4G. Granted that there is some weight to it in the hand, it's obviously welcomed since it provides you that sense of quality workmanship from head to toe that we should expect out of HTC's camp. Instead of being placed into a trance when looking at its display, like what I experienced when first checking out the HTC EVO 4G, it's actually nothing too spectacular since it's basically the same with its 4.3” capacitive touchscreen with WVGA (480 x 800) resolution. Aside from the noticeable amount of real estate that it has to offer, it features a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, the latest version of the Sense UI running on top of Android 2.2 Froyo, Bluetooth 2.1, 8-megapixel auto-focus camera with flash, front facing camera, 720p video recording, and support for Verizon 4G LTE. I added my own custom version of Sense UI interface. I hope you guys enjoy it. Thanks to Android Central for providing the material I needed to get it at this scale.

Some of the lines around the phone look weird. I know it, I fought it, I had to really look closely at the device in order to make sure it was accurate. Weird but true, this is the Nexus S.

Update: 12/18/10: I changed the reflection layer and optimized the .PSD for true pixel resolution view.

The Nexus S is the follow up to the Nexus One, which was the phone designed by Google. The Nexus S differs in design from the Nexus One because this time around it is made by Samsung rather than HTC. It carries a lot of spec improvements, including 16 GB of internal storage (Nexus One sported 512 MB). It has a 4-inch touchscreen, 5 MP camera, 1 GHz Hummingbird processor, and the ability to make VOIP/SIP calls and of coarse, its the first device to officially have Gingerbread aOS v2.3 on it. This phone performed very well under the daily use and abuse you'd normally throw at a phone like this. I've added a slightly different color design to the UI to reflect the color scheme. I day dreamed for awhile and put something together I wouldn't mind seeing in the $400-500 range. The HTC Saber HD fits that bill. It's certainly not a voice communication or image capturing device, but it makes up in the performance department. Boasting a 29.4cm (11.6in) WIDE x 22.3cm 8.8in TALL frame, NVIDIA Tegra 2 - 2GHz Quad-core ARM® Cortex-A9 Processors, 2GB High Speed/Energy Saver RAM / 32 GB SSD, a 10’ x 7.3’ (12.3’ Diagonal) AMOLED HD Touchscreen Display, Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) Native OS and WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS built in, this tablet puts portable power as we know it into question. At that price, let's hope that it's not just a dream.

Another great smartphone I was not initially impressed with. After getting a demo version of the device, I had a change of heart. The display on this phone is simply defining. Even more so than the touted Galaxy S, I really liked the look and feel of this phone and I really think this competes directly with the Droid 2. Similar specs, it outputs a 800 MHz Qualcomm MSM 7230 processor, 4GB ROM, 512 MB RAM, a 3.7-inch WVGA 480x 800 resolution, capacitive touchpanel display and 5 megapixel with all the bells and whistles. The one thing I really liked about this phone was how thin it was compared to the others mentioned. Will it beat out the competition in performance? No, but it will make anyone on the alternative networks very happy to finally have a Froyo phone worth bragging about. Yet again, I was looking for a high resolution Apple logo to use on a design I'm working on and couldn't find anything that was clean over 1000x. I looked at the Wikipedia 2000x, which is great! But needed something that was more scalable, came in layers so I could manipulate the logo, but nothing.. I looked at the logo .PSD's on Devart, but nothing had clean lines and at a high resolution to boot. Guess I'll have to do it myself... again! Yet again, I was looking for a high resolution Apple logo to use on a design I'm working on and couldn't find anything that was clean over 1000x. I looked at the Wikipedia 2000x, which is great! But needed something that was more scalable, came in layers so I could manipulate the logo, but nothing.. I looked at the logo .PSD's on Devart, but nothing had clean lines and at a high resolution to boot. Guess I'll have to do it myself... again! A 3.7-inch display, 8GB internal memory/ 32 GB external, 5 Megapixel camera, MicroSD support, 750MHz OMAP 3 processor, HDMI out and WiFi tethering are just the tip of this phone's iceberg. Comparable to Verizon's flagship, the Droid X, only smaller, this phone easily holds its own to the top phones in the market currently. Regardles, the .PSD notes are awesome! Sitting at over 50MB, this .PSD is 3000x res, and with the detailed keybaord work added, it's a hefty 350 layers. Update: (9-16-10) By popular demand! I added different colored shells for those who wanted to see how styling the body of the phone works. I went ahead and grouped the top and bottom portions of the body with a color for each layer. This obviously boosted the overall file size, doubling the size of the .PSD, but the .ZIP isn't that much bigger of a download when compressed. Have fun, I can wait to see what you come up with!

I took the summer completely off from .PSD work to spend time with the family and concentrate on actual work. The kids are back in school and my schedule has shifted quite a bit so it's time to play catch up! I had this .PSD and the Samsung Galaxie S .PSD almost done WAY back in June but just couldn't get to finishing them up. Sorry about that for those who I got excited and didn't deliver. Much appreciated for your patience and thanks for inquiring about my lack of production. Anyways, this .PSD is HUGE and truly can't be appreciated unless you look at it in Photoshop at it's original size. It took quite a bit of layering, far more than I expected looking at the design. I threw in my first Froyo 2.2 OS update into it. One small thing. The directories are labeled, but the layers are not labeled like they usually are in my .PSD's. Just tryin to get back on the horse. Hope you like it and expect me back on the chain and ball, slaving away at trying to get these phones out as well as more different styles of .PSD's. (Update: 10-4-11) Updated layers, cleaner image design and camera hardware update. You can finally lay all that speculation to rest because here it is! Apple's set its latest iPhone family member free, and out into the wireless wild for your future consumption. A new dual-core A5 processor-equipped, dual CDMA / GSM iPhone 4S -- awash in Siri-enabled voice control.

(Update: 10-23-10) Slimming down and bulking up. That's exactly what I did with this iPhone 4 update. The phone I made was fine. It has both main interfaces for the iPhone, slide lock and lots of goodies. What it lacks was resolution. It sat at 2000x, which by most standards is fine, but I really wanted to start working these devices above the 2500x mark. I've gone through and completely refined the entire phone. The .PSD sits on 5000x res. with a 3000x actual device. I think it may miss a few of the neat effects of the old iPhone .PSD but I think the slimming down of the layers minus 100 and a good resolution boost makes it worth the change. The file is not nearly as light though. Because of the res. boost, it went from 5mb zipped to 19.5mb zipped so a decent bump. None the less, I hope you enjoy the update.

Notes:
Talk about some meticulous designers! I made this in response the black iPhone 4G .PSD messages I got regarding the UI. Many of you are hardcore to the Apple system and wanted a UI that reflects the actual phones specifications. So much for dreaming, right? This .PSD has far more layers added to it, mainly because you guys wanted an editable replica interface. So it had to be it's own .PSD, sorry. I made some other minor tweaks and enhancements, but don't worry. The black iPhone .PSD got the same treatment. Same Day Update: The feedback I was getting helped out a lot. I made major changes to the .PSD to smooth out the light and texture. Threw the gloss out the window and the .PSD grew to 140+ layers. There's two versions in the zip now, versions v1 & v2. I hope you like them both.

It's been quite a few days since I've been able to even touch a .PSD for the sake of fun. Feeling a bit rusty so I thought I'd warm up on getting back into the phones by pumping out the new XBox 360 announced at E3 this week. Same Day Update: The feedback I was getting helped out a lot. I made major changes to the .PSD to smooth out the light and texture. Threw the gloss out the window and the .PSD grew to 140+ layers. There's two versions in the zip now, versions v1 & v2. I hope you like them both.

It's been quite a few days since I've been able to even touch a .PSD for the sake of fun. Feeling a bit rusty so I thought I'd warm up on getting back into the phones by pumping out the new XBox 360 announced at E3 this week. Not much under the hood but it's a far better looking console in my opinion. Thanks to the folks over at Engadget.com for supplying the goods to get this done in high resolution. Update (6-17-10): So there is a lot more we've learned about this phone. Most note worthy is the fact that it doesn't have a front facing camera. It was suspected to have one because of the multiple sensor heads it had showing on the receiver piece. We now know that it's just not so... SO, I changed the front facing camera to sensor element. The camera is still there though. I also changed the status bar to reflect the actual OS version it's running on instead of a stock Android OS template. Conference call now reads Camcorder instead. Other small tweaks and adjustments are made as well.

Update (5-28-10) Please Read: I've gotten a few emails from tech industry insiders and fans of my work regarding this .PSD. Apparently this device is not to be considered the next version of the original Motorola Droid. In fact, there will may never be. Verizon owns the name Droid and allows companies like HTC and Motorola to market their phones under that name when releasing devices. I have removed the Droid 2 name and updated the device name to just Droid Shadow / Extreme. That way there is no confusion as to what the phone really is before it's official announcement and release.

Notes:
If you havent been paying attention to the mobile market then you may have missed that another smart mobile tech employee left his shiny new Droid: Shadow at a local fitness club. The lucky employee who found it was keen on what he had and snapped some not too shabby pics. Also, the guy who found the device (as the story goes) managed to confirm a few details with the chap who picked it up-specifically, that it has 16GB of internal storage, runs on a Snapdragon processor, has a HDMI port, and yes, the 8MP camera and 4.3-inch screen all checked out too. For the full story check out Gizmodo. [link] I was lucky enough to gain access to some really nice pictures of the phone and jumped right on the .PSD. I tried my hardest to correct the minor issues effecting that .PSD, but I came to the conclusion that it was more effective for the developers following my .PSD's to get a far higher resolution development file to work with instead. I had plenty of requests asking me to correct the flaws, sorry you guys had to wait. It was a learning experience non the less and now all of my .PSD's come in high res. As promised I added a few things to the .PSD that you guys find useful. Like before, I sectioned the phone in customizable pieces so color coordinating is pretty easy. I also added the first look at the new Deep Blue user interface that will ship in a ROM update that has yet to be decided. For those who root, watch out for this one. It will be complete and may add a few new widgets you don't get with the stock Android interface. Please read the legal note below regarding the new interface. The rest of the .PSD is fair game. As always, free to use in anything non-profit, non-commercial, just credit and post me a link in the comments if you use it in your project. Why does it cost? Compare any other iPhone 4 PSD and you will see the difference in quality, layer organization and resolution. Nothing comes close.

(Update: 10-4-11) Updated layers, cleaner image design and camera hardware update. You can finally lay all that speculation to rest because here it is! Apple's set its latest iPhone family member free, and out into the wireless wild for your future consumption. A new dual-core A5 processor-equipped, dual CDMA / GSM iPhone 4S -- awash in Siri-enabled voice control.

(Update: 10-23-10) Slimming down and bulking up. That's exactly what I did with this iPhone 4 .PSD update. The original phone I made was fine. It had both main interfaces for the iPhone, slide lock and lots of custom design goodies. What it lacked was resolution. The original .PSD sat at 2000x res., which by most standards is sufficient for just any everything but print. My goal though is to really start working these devices above the 2500x resolution mark. I've gone through and completely refined the entire phone for the file. The overall .PSD canvas sits on 5000x res. with a 3000x actual device resolution. I think it may miss a few of the neat effects I pulled off with the old iPhone .PSD but I think the slimming down of the layers, minus 100 to be exact and a good resolution boost makes it worth the change. The file is not nearly as light though. Because of the resolution boost, it went from 5mb zipped to 19.5mb zipped so a decent bump. None the less, I hope you enjoy the update.

Notes: Who didn't see this coming? As soon as I got a good look at the iPhone 4G there was no way I was going to miss out on getting it released. Thanks goes to Gizmodo for providing such a great image layout of the Phone. I did what I could to get it to spec. I figured I needed to get something out there while it's hot. I had a chance to take a sneak peek at one of these phones before they hit Verizon stores and was very impressed with the performance. As expected, Android 2.1 with Sense, an 8 megapixel cam, 1GHz Snapdragon (not the underclocked core, WiFi, and a 3.7-inch WVGA AMOLED display. Basically, this unit is a Sense-ified HTC Nexus One with an up-spec'd camera and a penchant for Verizon's airwaves -- and for a whole lotta Android users, that's exactly what the doctor ordered. I figured I needed to get something out there while it's hot. I had a chance to take a sneak peek at one of these phones before they hit Verizon stores and was very impressed with the performance. As expected, Android 2.1 with Sense, an 8 megapixel cam, 1GHz Snapdragon (not the underclocked core, WiFi, and a 3.7-inch WVGA AMOLED display. Basically, this unit is a Sense-ified HTC Nexus One with an up-spec'd camera and a penchant for Verizon's airwaves -- and for a whole lotta Android users, that's exactly what the doctor ordered. After spending time doing this you begin to realize that it's the idea behind a logo, not the logo itself that makes it what it is. A logo can be creatively inspiring, provocative and down right iconic, but if the meaning behind it has no substance then it's just another fancy logo. Google buzz has added a new depth and angle to the social media world that's got many people excited with it's prospects. With the coming of this new way to communicate and share thoughts, news and ideas, I've developed a high resolution version of the logo for use in any manner the internet sees fit. Enjoy.

Development Note:
So after a heated photoshop and design debate with fellow designers over the new Google buzz logo, I was initially flawed in some of the design aspects to what it should look like. With some help, I was able to acquire a high res logo to work from. If you like this logo, have a look around my profile, you may like other things you see!
