Frog-girl of the 8th Dimension

Living in California, we have lots of unusual things here. People, clubs, and even some dodgy research labs tucked away in the heart of the industrial blight. I cant be certain exactly what it was, but leaving work late at night, I noted some movement in the nearby trees. A strange, creaking could be heard, something reminding me of a frog, but alluring in some way. As I approached, I saw her.. some strange creature nestled in the trees, peering at me, somehow tempting me to come ever closer. I was enthralled, but knew I was potentially in danger as well. I kept a clear enough mind to snap this shot, before she scowled at me, and then faded before my eyes into the night.

I learned the next day, there was some sort of accident in the lab across the way. Anecdotal accounts of strange occurrences were commonly heard, but the common thread was a rift to some other, dimensional reality. I don't know for sure, but perhaps, this strange image of the frog/girl will be my only evidence of my encounter with the 8th dimension!

This was actually done as an experiment. There are a lot of things I would have changed, from editing in better eyes to smoothing out the skin. Lighting was a real challenge as well. It was all done with many layers of liquid latex, which was (for me) much more fun to take off than put on. She is wearing nothing else beside a shower cap and goggles. This particular angle doesn't show the back patterning unfortunately, but we found that the yellow doesn't photograph well at all. The concept was to do a black/blue/yellow poison dart frog girl.

I heard of the competition (Deviant art's: 8th dimension in the nude [link]), and thought I would at least contribute my first creature experiment. This photo was left mostly unedited barring a few points of color correction which detracted from the image per the contest rules. *chuckles* I wish I was at the level where I didnt need to do some photoshop on most of my work, but the image stands, as is.

This is my entry for the 8th Dimension in the Nude Contest in support for the nude community in DA. I decided to join even if I don't have a model so I just decided to take photo of myself, which was a big challenge.

The inspiration behind this photo is the idea of infinite possibilities although the idea of infinity seems too abstract since It is very hard to imagine especially when your living in a world of scarcity but there is one thing that amazes me and that is when two mirror reflects each other and in here you get a glimpse of what infinity looks like.

The photo looked strange to me cause each of the reflection looked a little different. The focus is different and the expression seems a little different too although I did not alter it.

*ahem* That being said, this was a fun project for me. As mentioned previously I am attempting to enter as many of the dA 8th Birthday Contests as I can, to broaden my horizons as an artist. For the Pieces Of Eight - Resources contest [link] I decided to be quite literal about it and photograph my extensive collection of pirate coins, including pieces of eight (escudos), Chinese pirate coins and even some I cast myself. There are lots of different types, as you can see in the preview image. The zip file contains all the images as you see above, at least 3000 pixels wide (give or take.) Hope you find these useful, and if you use any of them be sure to fav, credit and link back.

Whitechapel 1888

In the autumn of the year 1888, later called "autumn of terror", London was in fear of a man they called Jack the Ripper. He killed several (most likely 5) prostitutes in the poor district Whitechapel in London's East End.

Jack the Ripper was the first modern serial killer. Already after the first murders, everyone in London knew his name. Rich people visited the crime scenes like tourists. Also his later victims knew about him, his last victim Mary Jane Kelly often said she was afraid of the murderer and wanted to leave the city. A few days later he caught her.

The people in London, and especially in Whitechapel, lived in constant fear these days. They knew that there was someone out there, a killer, but he didn't have a face. Nobody knew who he was or how he looked like. Our greatest fears are the fears of things we don't know. Every man on the street at night, every shadow could be the Whitechapel murderer. He killed most of his victims out on the street. He was somewhere out there.

This is what I tried to show with my photo of a man's shadow - this undefined fear of something of which you don't know what it looks like. When I read about 's "Primary Fear - Jack the Ripper" contest, I immediately wanted to join. I had been interested in Jack the Ripper before, also made an English project about this topic at school about one and a half year ago. Unfortunately I started my apprenticeship on 1st September and didn't have much free time anymore - but I was lucky, the contest dead line was extended until... today. I hope it's still on time, but I think in the USA time zones it must be even earlier now...

For this photo I made a silhouette out of a cardboard box. Sorry for the bad quality of the photo - I took it at night, it was dark and I couldn't use my camera's flash because then the shadow wasn't visible at all. But well, maybe this is not so bad after all, for the historic look of the photo.

Night Enchantment

I love painting scenes that seem like they have a story behind them.

Anyway, this painting was done for the paint by numerology contest. The topic was "power and sacrifice". I hope that my painting is self explanatory in regard to the topic, but just in case it isn't, the woman in the painting is supposed to be doing some sort of powerful spell/enchantment/whatever, while it costs her in energy and pain. (she's supposed to look pained, but as you can tell, I ran out of time, and had to rush the ending).

If anyone wanted to give me a critique, I've been trying to work a bit on anatomy (I need most help in hands and feet) and in light/shadow. So those would be great things to comment on.

I know that the flags aren't completely realistic. Of course, I only started looking properly at flags once I'd finished these, and noticed that mine don't look right at all. I am pleased with the design on them however.

Despite its flaws, I am quite pleased with this painting. I think I will redo the face after the contest is over because I had to rush it too much.

Good luck to all others in the contest, and thanks to the contest administrators for organizing it! And as it's a contest for dA's birthday, Happy birthday to dA!

I would also like to thank for ALL of her help on this picture - I couldn't have done it without your input!

I took a new picture of this artwork outside on a cloudy day, and I think it looks a lot better than the original.

This is Odin chief god in Norse pantheon. At first Odin sacrificed his eye (which eye he sacrificed is unclear) at Mímir's spring in order to gain the Wisdom of Ages [eye symbolizing his willingness to gain the knowledge of the past, present and future]. Then he hang himself on the world tree, Yggdrasil for gaining more wisdom.

Form my wisdom and knowledge is really power and Odin maka big sacrifice to achieve this power.

If looks could kill.....

Used the Dungeons & Dragons Basilisk as the base creature, and her skin color comes from a "Crimson Basilisk" online Wiki addition to the original D&D description. Since she has such a dark skin tone, I decided to style her after a ganguro girl, with a bit of para-para influences. The hardest thing about this drawing was trying to find something for all her hands to do.

I'm thinking of making her into an actual character, but she lacks a name. If anyone has any ideas, I'll be glad to hear them. I might even make a contest of my own from it.

This is my entry for the Paint by Numerology - No. 8 contest, run by :iconlimnidez:

When I first heard the theme for the contest - power and sacrifice, I instantly got to think of Jesus. For me, he's definitely the best description for these two words: How he sacrificed himself for mankind, and by that act became the ground pole for a whole new religion: Christianity.

Here I decided to draw a different pic of a suffering and confused Jesus, instead of those classic crucifix portraits. This specific scene isn't mentioned in the Bible though, so it's up to your own imagination to decide whether it really happened or not.

Okay, so I saw this [link] contest in 's journal and thought it was kind of cool.

I spent a while thinking about what to draw, but in the end I decided to honor what DA really brought out in me again and just draw something silly and fun for the sake of drawing.

The theme of the contest was 8-based anthro charachters to celebrate eight years of DA and the mascot Fella,and I think most of these animals have at least eight appendeges. :/

I really don't think I'm going to win anything, but I dont mind. I just had fun drawing it.

Call me weirdo if you want, but the first time I read Eight Legs in the contest, I instantly thought "Sleipnir".

If you don't know about Sleipnir... in Norse mythology, Sleipnir is Odin's eight-legged steed, and the greatest of all horses. His name means smooth or gliding, and is related to the English word "slippery" (cheap Wikipedia copypasta).

Technical data... at first, I was drawing it in only one layer, like some of my last submitted works. But doing this, was really difficult to give it an appropriate atmosphere. So I remembered "Siegfried", a comic book that ~Etbaal shown me not so long ago. This gave me the idea of change the style of the entire work, drawing it as a colored comic or something. To improvise a style for a contest entry is risky, because it can be wrong, or people will dislike it... but hey, it was funny.

Everything was done with Adobe Photoshop CS3. As always, no pencil sketch, 100% tablet.

Tried to get it as accurate as possible, but I have huge trouble in looking at a photograph of anything even vaguely spiderlike so that was pretty much impossible!

Realised once I started colouring that, unfortunately, I only had five colours in those pens, so it's a little... red, orange, green, yellow and purple and little else. XD
Although, those colours mixed together make brown.
Yay.

He's trying to be scary but it just doesn't work.
Holding a cape-like piece of material (a cape would've have worked, I realised, he wears no clothes!)

My submission for the eight legs contest, for deviantarts birthday. It's not supurb, but that's because I paid more attention to the anthros rather than the picture as a whole. As you can see, I tried a few different meathods of drawing the eight legs, and I think I like the 'octopus meathod' the best. I have to say, as poor as it is, I'm feeling confident, because so far as I know, the total contestants are, not including me, none. Enter it! The last day is this sunday. Enter it now.

This is a quill made from a raven's feather. It's around 100 years old. It's 13 inches from end to end with the curve (sorry, I don't have anything on hand atm that measures centimeters), so it would probably be around 15 in. if it were straight.

This pack took forever to make. I was working on it before the original deadline. Since the deadline was extended, I decided to experiment with lighting and setup to see what I could do to get as close to a plain white background as possible.There's one blue background, but the rest are white and I learned a lot playing with this! I hope you enjoy these and can use them.

This is my entry for the contest about the number 8 [link] , for the dA's birthday.
The girl on the left is the personification of Power, the one on the right is the personification of the Sacrifice. I like how I made the background but it took me a lot of time °_° .

I know it's not tack sharp. People move. And the aperture was as wide as it got on the camera I had... couldn't decrease the shutter any. Best compromise I could make. You still get the feeling of it I think, and the motion blur may even be a positive thing.

Euophrys omnisuperstes is a species reported to have been collected at the highest elevation, on the slopes of Mt. Everest.

Jumping spiders are generally recognized by their eye pattern. They typically have eight eyes arranged in two or three rows. The front, and most distinctive row is enlarged and forward facing to enable stereoscopic vision. The others are situated back on the cephalothorax. Several species of jumping spiders appear to mimic ants, beetles or pseudoscorpions. Others may appear to be parts of grass stems, bumps on twigs, bark, part of a rock or even part of a sand surface.

Jumping spiders are generally diurnal, active hunters. Their well developed internal hydraulic system extends their limbs by altering the pressure of body fluid (blood) within them. This enables the spiders to jump without having large muscular legs like a grasshopper. They can jump 20 to 80 times the length of their body. Unlike almost all other spiders, they can quite easily climb on glass. Minute hairs and claws on their feet enable them to grip imperfections in the glass. Jumping spiders also use their silk to weave small tent-like dwellings where females can protect their eggs, and which also serve as a shelter while moulting.

Jumping spiders have very good vision centered in their anterior median eyes (AME). Their eyes are able to create a focused image on the retina, which has up to four layers of receptor cells in it. Because the retina is the darkest part of the eye and it moves around, one can sometimes look into the eye of a jumping spider and see it changing color. When it is darkest, you are looking into its retina and the spider is looking straight at you.

Primary Fear entry

In reference to Jack The Ripper.

I have knowledge based upon Jack the Ripper. I know how he killed his victims and left his crime scenes. I realize there wasn't that much blood and all his victims throats were cut. But I wanted to specifically portray how he liked to play with their innards on more than one occasion. I think that's the most gruesome aspect of his attacks. I realize it's unlikely he would leave any weapon at the crime scene but consider this right after he finished and right before he left. His last mental picture of his work.
If you look closely you will see two other metal tools seemingly holding open the wounds he's created.
You can't really tell what's been done, but it's clear there are multiple cuts here and there, right beneath her undergarments. I would had added more to this shoot if I had the resources, but I worked with whatever I could get my hands on. I wanted the model to appear exposed.

Literally took this photo a couple of hours ago.
Everything was set up at the last minute. Including wardrobe, location, props and lighting.
It was kinda hell editing this photo. I don't have a reliable monitor anymore to know that the color and contrast looks right... so I used my boyfriends second computer and that monitor is not reliable either.....

I finished my editing by emailing myself the photo on a reliable monitor and comparing the two as I edited....

Had to be something correlated to the anthro fandom and something with 8 legs.

A couple notes.

First off the title. Yes, I did name it after the french CG animation of the 2 octopuses I just thought I should try and pull attention to that. [link]

2nd I need to learn to do backgrounds.

3rd I know we were encouraged to do something other than a spider or octopus but I personally have not seen enough octopus anthros out there. the only one's I've ever really noticed is the Cthulu and Ursala. Also this character doesn't have a name but I think I'm gonna continue using her. (meaning give suggestions)

7th... or 4th for those paying attention thats fella on her face. face, not nose, her nose is where her ears are supposed to be. and thats her brain behind her head O_o

Well there we go. This is my entry for ^Katerina423's Primary Fear contest! I really wanted to do something for this contest but I had such a hard time finding an idea...

So I tried to set -in our time- how his victims felt when meeting Jack The Ripper. The terror they felt in their body when they saw his face in the darkness. How fast their heart were pounding, the last thoughts they had. The panic that was going through their body and mind. Brrr.

I personally am scared of the dark, the dark dark when you can't see a thing. And thinking of what they might have gone through is just....terrifying.

I know, this is not exactly a fav for everybody... not really for me either, like... I wouldn't want them in my bed
