Silky, this is for you. I appreciate all the times you've been there to critique my writing, offering feedback, comments, and advice. I also want to thank you for the comments you've left on my art. Suggesting that I work more on using color shading back in early 2011 was a major help towards improving my style. And more recently, I've just been amazed at your ability to offer detailed critique and knowledge of art techniques like shadowing. Also I know what the gurren toppan langan (?) yeah that big mecha thing is, I have some knowledge of it now. I don't fully understand it but thank you for using it judiciously in simile.

And when you were there for my character art ustream, I just was so surprised and glad and thankful that you were there. I remember smiling so much when I saw the names you suggested, and first tried saying them aloud. And, like, I know I have said this before but thank you again for being so understanding. Seriously, I... just felt so in my comfort zone with regard to social interaction for once, being able to talk with you there.

I actually had gotten this fairly close to being done by Christmas Eve, but then I was like... you know how about some houses instead of an empty field, yeah that would be better. And then, I realized, hey, how about ACTUALLY SOME FALLING SNOW. I'd seen your Ronnie-campfire flash animation, so I figured you might be able to appreciate a Flash animation as someone who has made one in the past.


Though Twi doesn't have a scarf in her ref sheet, I am using the design from "mY FEET ARE FREEZINGKSJHGSKF" (tumblr picture on her silkyarts blog, very postmodern spelling, aesthetically appealing for its accuracy in evoking the 'brrr so cold' feeling, i might add) as her probable indicated scarf of choice.

It doesn't have the puffy things at the end, as those would probably weight it down at least a little bit. I know the snow is falling mostly vertically... um just imagine there is a left to right (viewer's perspective) gust of wind blowing, and that's why the scarf is up in the air like that.

There is no snow on Twilite (Twi) 's back. I know. This is because she has been walking around the neighborhood area. She hasn't been still in one place long enough for the snow to pile up appreciably without melting from body heat or blowing off in the wind. Even if you watch the animation for a long time... time does not actually pass in terms of snow accumulation. Twi was like. going down the sidewalk (bottom right to upper left direction, thus no paw prints, because you see the direction in which see has yet to walk.

The textures for the doors (x2), window (x1), brick (x1), roof tiles (x2) came from the free cgtextures website once recommended by ~tyronniesaur in some FAQ/comment response. I used cgtextures for my illustrated manuscript drawing, too. The houses are cube designs with pyramids "on top" but actually it's heavily manipulated 3D perspective. If I moved the camera in photoshop (CS4 Extended) very much at all, the roofs would no longer appear directly above the houses. I had separate photoshop layers and documents for each face of the houses, and each triangular face of the roofs. (I keep wanting to say rooves, like the plural of leaf is leaves. English has so many irregularities.)

I used some photo references to get an idea of what color scheme to use. For a night scene under a streetlamp in the winter, cool colors such as blues and purples predominated. I also made use of textures that came with Photoshop CS4 Extended. For instance, a rock texture is used for the overlay gray/black texturing of the deep purple asphalt road. Another rock texture is used for the sidewalk and the front house paths. I realize that neither house has a car/driveway, and that they may appear small. I checked out some free Google Sketchup 3D winter-themed houses and exported to collada DAE, the only other option besides sketchup format, at least in the free version. I then got an error when trying to import into photoshop. I think at one point in the past I managed to export from google sketchup into photoshop, but maybe that was just with the 5.5 free trial. For now, I can build my own 3D models in photoshop from the pre-set basic shapes.

As for the falling snow effect, this was a modified version of an educational template. Here is the source:

I changed the number of snowflakes, the thickness of the fog effect, and even the average speed of the snowflakes by messing around with the ActionScript 3.0 code. This is from a sample file used for tutorials and educational purposes, which I have now used for artistic expression.

Summer 2011 was Nakia and my 20th anniversary of friendship! We met in first grade, 1991.



We decided to celebrate the 2 decade long friendship with a trip to Disney! I made the photos I took into a scrapbook and gave to Nakia for a Christmas gift. (It was Freaking time consuming!) The pages, for the most part, are in chronological order. And yes, we tried to hit as many characters as we could.

I took many pictures of each page, hoping to do something like this. I'm SO excited to present this! Enjoy!

Below I'm describing the pages (more for my benefit in the years to come, than yours). Feel free to read.






Page Descriptions

Page 1: Red tablecloth

Page 2: Cover, of us with Fantasia Mickey Mouse. He was kinda bothered because of the teen girl before us in line. She and her mom (and their tiny pet dog) went up with Mickey, but then she kinda sneezed and mucus just dribbled down her face. Her mom claimed the dog was with them to help her allergies.... That's what she said.

Page 3: The picture of us in front of the Magic Kingdom says "Let The Memories Begin". Felt it was a great picture to start the book. Under "Celebrating 20 Years of Friendship" the teal box says "A friend is a person who knows all about you - and still likes you. - Elbert Hubbard". The bottom left is a shakeable Tinkerbell with the castle, the glitter and stars move inside.

Page 4: On the way down to Orlando, we stopped at Nakia's college: FSU. We met with one of her friends there, who was happy to pose with the icons of FSU.

Page 5: The top is us with Sulley & Mike (Monster's Inc), on the bottom we are with Mrs. & Mr. Incredibles (The Incredibles).

Page 6: Nakia petting a crayon, and me pointing at Michigan, while waiting for the Toy Story Midway Mania ride/game.

Page 7: Meeting Mary Poppins and her penguin friends.

Page 6: Spaceship Earth, in all its glory.

Page 7: The fun pictures the Spaceship Earth ride takes of you that reflects in the answers to its questions.

Page 8: Daisy was great, doing different poses with us! We asked her what poses she'd like us to do with her, and she struck it!

Page 9: Donald Duck in Mexico (Epcot).

Page 10: Stitch had no line, so we took full advantage! He is petting our heads in the picture. Took a picture of the lifesaver that said "Friendship", it was fitting. The cookie picture (with Nakia behind it) was because Nakia said "You get a cookie!" (for whatever smart ass comment of hers I replied to). I held her to that cookie....

Page 11: Top picture, Nakia and I were doing the Kim Possible save the world type game! You got a cell phone that would have Kim and her friends talking to you about where to find clues! This was SO much fun! We did all the different countries! Picture to the right is Rapunzel's tower where the little window would open to play the sad melody of the movie. Bottom left is Nakia looking at ducks in the shade.

Page 12: Met Alice and Mary Poppins (again) in the England part of Epcot.

Page 13: A picture of me in front of the "Water Up" or "Reverse Waterfall" outside the Imagination Pavilion (Epcot). I forget what the Disney worker called it, but it was a Waterfall where the water went up. To the right is Nakia with the inking girl (Finding Nemo). The little stingray kept following Nakia when we walked around the aquarium petting zoo, so it deserved a picture.

Page 14: The top picture was for ! I thought the kissing pose was very much like her, so I asked Tinkerbell if she'd do the pose with us. Terence just shrugged. Met Aurora (Sleeping Beauty) in France (Epcot).

Page 15: Nakia was bonding with Snow White, but with the little kids taking time to hug and get signatures, the Disney characters were cool to give us time to chit chat. Nakia was telling Snow White she just had the best gooseberry cupcake in Snow White's country (Germany, in Epcot). Snow White said that sounded really good, she'll have to let her 7 little friends try. I never liked Snow White until this moment!

Page 16: We found Pooh and Tiger in England (Epcot) and Mulan in China (Epcot).

Page 17: The start of the Animal Kingdom! Nakia with the big tree behind her, and us toasting our free cupcakes! They gave them to us when they read our big green buttons "Celebrating" and we wrote on them "20 years of friendship!". What was really cool was we met a pair of middle-aged women in a line for the safari... and they were there celebrating their friendship, too!

Page 18: Mickey, Donald, and Goofy in their safari outfits.

Page 19: We asked Minnie how would she like us to pose, and this is what she did. AH!!!! Chip N Dale! My favorite of the "Disney original" cast!

Page 20: We met Brer Bear (Splash Mountain) and Koda (Brother Bear)! We asked each one how they'd like to us to pose, and Koda went ALL bear on us!

Page 21: We found Meeko... and later Pocahontas asked us if we had seen her little furry friend. Nakia found a neat dinosaur to pose with (Animal Kingdom) and in doing so, found a hidden Mickey (pointing to it)! Hidden Mickey symbols are all over the parks, just the three circle that make Mickey's iconic symbol. Going into the big Animal Kingdom tree, I found a shark! My favorite animal!

Page 22: Lilo & Stitch, then Thumper and... "Thumper's Girlfriend" (The Disney workers said she doesn't have a real name ).

Page 23: Pooh, Eeyore, & Tigger (All in Animal Kingdom). Nakia was So excited to find them all in one spot.

Page 24: MAGIC KINGDOM!!!!! And we didn't see Pluto at Animal Kingdom, so we grabbed him there.

Page 25: All three princesses in one spot: Belle (Beauty & The Beast), Cinderella (Cinderella), and Aurora (Sleeping Beauty). We asked each princess how we should pose for our photo, each princess gave a different pose. They each chatted a little bit with us, they were really shocked at the 20 years of friendship.

Page 26: As we were leaving the Princess room, you (of course) are forced to walk thru the gift shop to fully exit. As we were walking through, the shop worker asked if we wanted to pose with the Minnie dressed as Belle. Later we got our picture taken with the pink Cinderella dress.

Page 27: I bought too many Little Mermaid stickers... that's why they literally cover the page. The reason Ariel is making that face in the bottom image is because she saw my shark necklace and I told her sharks are my favorite animal. She suddenly got SO excited! "Did you know they can leap out of the water?!" I'm not sure if she broke character or not, but it was such nerdy fun to trade shark trivia with her! She was getting as excited as me about them. I told her to be careful if she goes swimming.

Page 28: The princess Nakia was dead-determined to meet... Princess Tiana! We had a good long chat with these two (despite the line). When we told them we were friends for 20 years she exclaimed, "You're not old enough to have been friends that long!" It was very flattering. We explained we met in first grade, which followed with more compliments. She made Nakia's day. The picture of the squirrel was because he sat so close to us while we waited to meet this pair.

Page 29: My favorite princess and prince! Aladdin and Jasmine!

Page 30: A sitting, photo spot of Pooh and friends. I made Nakia go sit over by it. The bottom was our second attempt to see Buzz Lightyear. We were in line to meet him and Woody in the Hollywood park, but a lady allowed her rude kid to keep bugging us, so we gave up.

Page 31: Nakia posing with Mr. Potato Head, then holding her beloved Dug (Up) and then her posing with the Mickey & Minnie. All pictures were taken in Downtown Disney.

Page 32: The final page, so I went sticker crazy! It was each of our pictures with the Cinderella statue. The bottom says "Looking forward to another 20 years".

Page 12: Met Alice and Mary Poppins (again) in the England part of Epcot.

Page 13: A picture of me in front of the "Water Up" or "Reverse Waterfall" outside the Imagination Pavilion (Epcot). I forget what the Disney worker called it, but it was a Waterfall where the water went up. To the right is Nakia with the inking girl (Finding Nemo). The little stingray kept following Nakia when we walked around the aquarium petting zoo, so it deserved a picture.

Page 14: The top picture was for ! I thought the kissing pose was very much like her, so I asked Tinkerbell if she'd do the pose with us. Terence just shrugged. Met Aurora (Sleeping Beauty) in France (Epcot).

Page 15: Nakia was bonding with Snow White, but with the little kids taking time to hug and get signatures, the Disney characters were cool to give us time to chit chat. Nakia was telling Snow White she just had the best gooseberry cupcake in Snow White's country (Germany, in Epcot). Snow White said that sounded really good, she'll have to let her 7 little friends try. I never liked Snow White until this moment!

Page 16: We found Pooh and Tiger in England (Epcot) and Mulan in China (Epcot).

Page 17: The start of the Animal Kingdom! Nakia with the big tree behind her, and us toasting our free cupcakes! They gave them to us when they read our big green buttons "Celebrating" and we wrote on them "20 years of friendship!". What was really cool was we met a pair of middle-aged women in a line for the safari... and they were there celebrating their friendship, too!

Page 18: Mickey, Donald, and Goofy in their safari outfits.

Page 19: We asked Minnie how would she like us to pose, and this is what she did. AH!!!! Chip N Dale! My favorite of the "Disney original" cast!

Page 20: We met Brer Bear (Splash Mountain) and Koda (Brother Bear)! We asked each one how they'd like to us to pose, and Koda went ALL bear on us!

Page 21: We found Meeko... and later Pocahontas asked us if we had seen her little furry friend. Nakia found a neat dinosaur to pose with (Animal Kingdom) and in doing so, found a hidden Mickey (pointing to it)! Hidden Mickey symbols are all over the parks, just the three circle that make Mickey's iconic symbol. Going into the big Animal Kingdom tree, I found a shark! My favorite animal!

Page 22: Lilo & Stitch, then Thumper and... "Thumper's Girlfriend" (The Disney workers said she doesn't have a real name ).

Page 23: Pooh, Eeyore, & Tigger (All in Animal Kingdom). Nakia was So excited to find them all in one spot.

Page 24: MAGIC KINGDOM!!!!! And we didn't see Pluto at Animal Kingdom, so we grabbed him there.

Page 25: All three princesses in one spot: Belle (Beauty & The Beast), Cinderella (Cinderella), and Aurora (Sleeping Beauty). We asked each princess how we should pose for our photo, each princess gave a different pose. They each chatted a little bit with us, they were really shocked at the 20 years of friendship.

Page 26: As we were leaving the Princess room, you (of course) are forced to walk thru the gift shop to fully exit. As we were walking through, the shop worker asked if we wanted to pose with the Minnie dressed as Belle. Later we got our picture taken with the pink Cinderella dress.

Page 27: I bought too many Little Mermaid stickers... that's why they literally cover the page. The reason Ariel is making that face in the bottom image is because she saw my shark necklace and I told her sharks are my favorite animal. She suddenly got SO excited! "Did you know they can leap out of the water?!" I'm not sure if she broke character or not, but it was such nerdy fun to trade shark trivia with her! She was getting as excited as me about them. I told her to be careful if she goes swimming.

Page 28: The princess Nakia was dead-determined to meet... Princess Tiana! We had a good long chat with these two (despite the line). When we told them we were friends for 20 years she exclaimed, "You're not old enough to have been friends that long!" It was very flattering. We explained we met in first grade, which followed with more compliments. She made Nakia's day. The picture of the squirrel was because he sat so close to us while we waited to meet this pair.

Page 29: My favorite princess and prince! Aladdin and Jasmine!

Page 30: A sitting, photo spot of Pooh and friends. I made Nakia go sit over by it. The bottom was our second attempt to see Buzz Lightyear. We were in line to meet him and Woody in the Hollywood park, but a lady allowed her rude kid to keep bugging us, so we gave up.

Page 31: Nakia posing with Mr. Potato Head, then holding her beloved Dug (Up) and then her posing with the Mickey & Minnie. All pictures were taken in Downtown Disney.

Page 32: The final page, so I went sticker crazy! It was each of our pictures with the Cinderella statue. The bottom says "Looking forward to another 20 years".

I finally finished it! I began this a few weeks ago, and I thought it would be done sooner. I had been hoping to get it done before Christmas, but it was abandon for a couple of weeks, school got in the way, along with some other things. But here it is! I worked my butt off in the free time every day this week after I finished my homework. @_@ Including staying up until 10:30pm (actually going to sleep at 11:30pm) yesterday. I knew that I would be tired today (Friday). I almost fell asleep in one of my classes three times. I'm just glad its the weekend.

The first I ever thought of this idea was in the car on the way to school one morning when the song 'Better Days' was playing. All I ever think about is shouen-ai when listening to love-ish music...;;;;
I wrote the idea in my planner during school. The song 'Better Days' was so inspirational @@. I pictured Sasu and Naru in my head and what they would be doing and saying. But I couldn't think of a picture that would live up to that idea. So I finally started to make the animation.
I thought that this would be shorter, but after removing a few things, and adding a ton, I'm glad it is longer. #_# After making this, I pretty much have sasuke and naruto down as far as drawing goes =_=....
I would've liked to add a few more things to it, but it would've taken a ridiculous amount of time... >> so no...
