Winter's Farewell

I did this while thinking about how people usually embrace the start of Spring...pushing away winter in the process. So, I wanted to paint something in the winter's view, with the girl as winter. (her dress is partly frozen on the bottom....btw)

materials used:
- pencil for sketch
- Acrylic color w/ wet and dry brush
- eraser for when i messed up (hehehe)
- I used this ref for the summer side, but I can't find the original pic. (Kinda photoshopped it to fit it as a ref for this)

Wow, can't belive I'm just now getting around to posting this! x n x
On the 18th of August the gallery where I work hosted an event called The Dog & Cat Days of Summer | Friends of the Shelter Pup Art Fundraiser, which benefited the local shelter and all of its doggies. There were also dogs there for adoption (nngh my heart ; o ; ) as well as dogs that were there with their pet parents and families! It was a really good time and I look forward to it again next year.

We had art of all kinds for sale for the event as well as a silent auction! I really wanted to do something to contribute (other than my eye pendants) so I painted this pretty kitty! He didn't sell sadly, but he's still hanging up in the gallery for sale. He'll probably be coming with me to AWA in a few weeks to find a new home~

A colorful summer

So from left to right,
Flowers, lanterns and silhouette+sky, ~aabbbyy playing video games, last piece to that "Hello! Now Hide!" mini-concentration.

First three are water color, last one is colored pencil.
For the white lines I used a white Painters brush and photoshop. All references were mine!

DURP. Better a few small art dumps than a bunch of individual ones, right?

A ver, este dibujo lo he hecho para un concurso. El tema era el verano y era obligatorio usar los personajes de (y yo lo he hecho literal xD)

Sólo decir que todo el mundo las hacía en la playa y yo, por todo el morro he hecho una piscina(= A parte de eso pedir disculpas por el fondo TAN cutre. Creo que he perdido pinceles en Photoshop.

I just have to say that I saw all the entries in the beach, so I made them on a swimming pool^^' and apart from that I'm sorry for that background, but I couldn't do it better, just I lost brushes on Photoshop.

I tried to make a painting that had kinda like a fire feeling to it. Lots of warm colors and so.... ^_^

She kinda looks like Ai Otsuka xD

I used:
Watercolors: red, yellow, purple, brown, orange and a little black.
2 types of brushes: one thicker for coloring and one that's thinner for details.
Thin brush: nr 6
Thick brush: nr 12

A normal pencil for the sketch.
Paper, not too thin since it's watercolor
and of course water ^_^

I also used Photoshop CS4 for changing the contrast a little bit, since my scanner is so, SO bad

It's a poster for a never booked Agalloch-Alcest-Kauan concert (yes, it's summer, i'm bored), which is far from perfect (as i'm not the best at drawing, and this was the first time i used the mighty photoshop [oh, gimp... i miss you!] to do some nice-looking stuff) but it was a nice pastime.

By the way it would be fantastic if somebody made this concert for real.(particularly if it took place near to me : D) this three band would fit so perfectly to each other...

Only Just a Dream

AHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Why did I draw this?! Well, I had just spent 6+ hours on an animation project, it was probably around 2:00 AM, and I was waiting for a computer to open up to shoot my work. So, I did this second semester of last year, and it sat in my notebook all summer rotting in its ugliness.

I...dont really draw romantic stuff that often, and when I do, its never...kissing

So. I pulled out the sketch one day and my eyes almost melted; the original sketch was really poorly drawn. The lineart that you see here was drawn after I practically reworked the entire sketch on my computer.

Im uploading this as mixed media because it really is an equal combination of both traditional and digital work. I drew it on paper, did the lineart on the computer, printed out the lineart and colored it with Prismacolor pencils, scanned it back into the computer and added the background and blushies in Photoshop after doing some minor corrections to the saturation of the piece (to make it look like the colored paper version). I would have inked the sketch on the original copy and skipped all the computer steps before the bg if the original sketch didnt need to be fixed so badly. I think I put more time into fixing the sketch than anything else O_O

Although coloring this was a pain too >_<;

Im not going to lie; I find this kind of subject matter excessively embarrassing. Gin made fun of me (okay well maybe not fun but laughed a little) because I was all like Eek! No! Dont look at it! haha. I tried very hard to not let my parents see it either as I colored it because I was afraid theyd make fun of me (adsklfkl;sdfalalk;d) My mom was handing me the wii remote yesterday and happened to see it and she was like I accidentally looked over and saw it and its beautiful! I dont understand why you wouldnt let me see it! Is it because its a love thing? And I screamed yes. Im so pathetic.

The piece of paper that this thing is colored on doesnt even feel like paper anymore, on a side note. Its been handled so much that it seems thicker, like it feels like home-made paper. And theres a lovely yellow sweat stain going up and down the entire left side from my hand. Yuck, I know. The back is flecked with speckles of colored pencil, too. It makes the original more special to me, because it seems more than a picture now. BUT. The digital copy is the one thats finished, so.

I also downloaded some sweet glitter brushes from the internet ^_^ First time Ive ever used brushes that didnt come with Photoshop hee hee

Now about the picture!

For those of you who dont know, these are my ocs from my novel(la) Ponderium. (btdubs for my friends in rl who are reading it, I thought of a new name for Carpool!) I like romance in stories, but I dont like romantic stories...if that makes any sense. So, romance is not a big part of my story at all, really. Its the typical guy likes girl but girl doesnt like guy and never will sort of situation. Its waaaaaaaay more complicated than that, because Christina has a legitimate reason to not love Josh back, but youd have to read my story to understand that (actually you dont, Ive mentioned it in an artist comment for one of my other Ponderium pictures)

The title. So, since Christina doesnt love Josh, she wouldnt willingly let him kiss her, right? When I was originally drawing this, Christina had more of a distressed look on her face, but it kinda looked like she was afraid she was gonna get raped XD So I obviously edited that a little She still doesnt look to happy about it (Bri said she looks sad). But the Christina we all know and love (as in me, Gin, and Bri) would woop Joshs sorry ass for attempting a kiss, so therefore he must be dreaming to get this far. (That, and when Gin saw the pic she was like, Ha! Yeah right, in his dreams!).

So I tried to make the background follow suit with the idea. I was originally going to color the background on the actual paper, but I was afraid that (with all the oils from my hands on the paper) it would look jarringly.bad.

Im a sucker for romantic stuff in general, so I couldnt help but draw these two together. I WANT them to be together, but in all honesty, they CANT. Or can they? I leave it up to the readers to decide.

Illustration for the mid-summer section of my Illustrated Book of Shadows. The drawing was created using a full range of graphite pencils on Arches hundred percent linen watercolor paper 16 x 22. The image was scanned using an Epson 500 into Photoshop CS 5 extended. Using the blending palette, multiply, the image was placed over scanned parchment. The eraser brush tool was used to lift out color from the parchment layer to enhance highlights. The outside border was drawn from a Dover publication, An Analysis of Gothic Architecture 1847 by Pelham Richardson, Dover edition 2007. It is the belief of many naturalistic pagans that supernatural beings have little need of clothing and appear sky clad. The figure on the left is a tree dryad, the central figure is a fairy Love Talker, and on the right is a werewolf. The central figure was drawn using a reference photo [link]

This poor girl is upset because the local boys won't let her play baseball with them. How rude lol.

I am in no sense experienced with inking or "comic coloring". I tired my luck here. I have never worked with color holds so I have no true knowledge of how to use them correctly and have only barely scratched the surface of inking. Don't kill me all you comic artists! I'm a noob!

Another school assignment. This time it was dealing with custom Photoshop Brushes and mask boarders. I used this as an excuse to FINALLY finish this drawing I started two summers ago.

Faaaaantastic. The gear brushes were all made by me in Illustrator CS5. In the actual assignment we made siggies for, but the one I made is for FAI, not appropriate for this Clippy style picture. Eventually I will make one for Clippy work.

Putting this in this category because I said so~ These have all been piling up forrr..a while. And then some others are fairly new.

First up we have some random expressions for Zanai and Blake. This was before Zanai got a new 'do. Thennn we have some failed attempts at fall fashion. Yama, could your head BE any bigger? Then next to that is a random little doodle of Thing. Fear him. Then we have a doodle of what was SUPPOSED to be John Rzeznik but I accidentally made him scary instead. ;__; I'm sorry Johnny Iluplzforgiveme.

Starting a new row we have a ditched idea to draw Yama and Goo in 70s wear, but I kept it around because I love how Yama's face came out. Look at him don't you just want to scoop him up and give him noogies?! ;3; Next we have Yama and Goo (AGAIN) just randomly being stupidly cute. Next is a failed attempt at summer fashion! You'd think that as much as I like drawing clothes, I'd actually finish them once in a while! Thennn we have a more realisticish portrait of Yama that I TOTALLY forgot existed ahaha.

Row three! It's a Sig! Man I haven't drawn him in a while! I need to get the bromance vibes going between those two again. Then I went a little crazy drawing more expressions for Zanai, using some screenshots of Milo from Disney's Atlantis for reference. Zanai is so fun to draw! Seriously, you should try it! ¦D; Oh and there's also a Yama or two on this row. Most of the colored Zanai faces were just an excuse to try out more Photoshop brushes. They were fun.

Characters belong to meee except for John Rzeznik he belongs to himself I suppose, doodles are all miiien. Title is from a song by Elvis Costello that I can never find anywhere, using it 'cause it just came on. :'D

This is Tehra [short for Tehramon], son of Puzzle and Ink, making him 25% fairy 25% angel and 50% incubus. Quite an interesting mix, I guess.
He also has a twinbrother named Tactimon.

His favourite food is Lego. I have no idea why, it just kinda happened.

I did this last summer using markers, but only came to make the final touches now. I know the colours are flat, but tbh at that time I only owned about 8 markers, ahahaha. *fail* The colour of the wings I did in Photoshop, same with the background. Can't remember where I got the brush for the stars from. ):

The Four Celestial Animals

This was created for the nature contest run by four elements, [link]

It was inspired by the four celestial animals from ancient Chinese astrology.

The black tortoise of the north represents winter.
The azure dragon of the east represents spring.
The venison bird (or phoenix) of the south represents summer.
The white tiger of the west represents autumn.

I took it a step further and gave each an element. The tortoise water, because they swim in it and its the obvious choice for winter. The dragon air, because it flies and it fits with the light carefree season that is spring. The phoenix I made fire I made fire for obvious reasons (it is reborn from it and summer is understandably hot) and the tiger was left with earth which fits because autumn is an earthy season, and the tiger is the only one of the four animals that would spend a lot of time on dry land.

I decided to draw each animal in a naturalistic scene but where possible tried to put them in their element and show the season, (it was a bit hard to put the tiger underground or show snow underwater). In the phoenixs picture the sun represents both fire and summer.

I used the compass to indicate the north, east, south, west relationship but instead of putting these on the points I put the kanji for each element and season on them. Since I already had the seasons, elements and ordinates I decided to continue with the cycles and balance theme decorating the compass with a moon cycle, day and night imagery and a Ying Yang symbol.

I put stars in the background to highlight the fact that these animals are astrological symbols and the kanji to emphasise the Chinese aspect of the art work.

The compass and animals were drawn and painted by hand with acrylic paints, these where then scanned in and put on a background created with Photoshop using the a kanji brush([link]) and a stars/glitter brush([link]).

Back to an old theme one more time... the summer people have gone and their cottages are closed up for the season.

Paintings are static by their very nature. And in deed, many painters want to capture a specific moment and extend it for ever in amber. I try instead to capture a mood that spans more than the moment. I attempt this by being as unspecific as possible: I don't paint a one-of-a-kind spectacular sunset, but turn away and paint what's illuminated with it's light. I paint grass without painting a single blade, trees without painting leaves, people only vaguely, as if caught moving... In this case all of the above plus the 'hand hammered' sky painted with short brush strokes of various colors that to me suggest movement and change clouds and sky without actually putting them in. None of this is realistic, of course, but I am quite content to let cameras and photoshop handle that end of the business...

Second in pre-races!

Haha, here is my entry for 's Rosendal Beachshow! This be the Beachrace part of the competition. XD Anywho, *ISleepAwake very graciously allowed me to use her horses (who are also entered) with my entry, so here they are. XD Teh gray dapple (Swedish Warmblood) is WPS Double Agent, ridden by Joe Forrester, and the bay (Selle Fracais) is WPS Daquiri, ridden by Summer Scott. And my dear DGR Legion (Thoroughbred) is worked by Cora Vatican, our Equine Director here at Dry Gulch Ranch. ^^ I have yet to get Cora a proper Cast background, so this be your guys' first glimpse of her... In my fail human drawing... Yeah...

ON TO TEH TECHINCALS!!! 8D

So, all horses and riders were done in graphite, because I feel more confident in that area. Unfortunately, my humans are, like teh PHAIL-WHALE... Which is just sad... I can do head-shots and what-not, but goodness these riders were a nightmare... I seriously need to work on my humans. I do apologize for butchering your charas, Sleep!
Anyway, I actually didn't have enough room to do all three horses on one page, I had to split things through two pages... That was rather interesting... After finishing horses and people in sketchbook, though, I then put everything into Photoshop. Pulled my three horses together, then added a background. I used Corel Painter's brushes for the sand, dust and bit of water. I then made a quick grass brush (made the horizon line with that) and then turned everything black and white to match my pencils. So, yeah, a lot of steps, but I think everything came out rather well. Except my humans...

BUT, I am happy with the overall result. ^^ I wanted to try and keep Legion long and lanky, with Agent and Daquiri staying a bit rounder (being warmbloods), and I think I accomplished that nicely. Anywho, hope you all enjoy, and wish me luck in the Races!

Story

After Legions groundwork and a couple of minor shows, Cat, Bean and Cora had all hopped aboard a ship to Scandinavia for the Rosendal Stables first Beachshow, arriving a day before the action. The three gals were stunned at the competition as it arrived. Not only had Miss Jullelin brought her half-Hototo and Obertaur, but Binary Star Stables, Royal Pirate Stables, Beaumont Stables, Dark Lake Stables, Royal Ashcroft Stables, Bushidou Ranch, Rhed Moon Stables and many other ranches and stables had arrived for the fun-filled festivities. Bean thoroughly enjoyed herself shopping in the local districts before the races, while Cat and Cora fretted over Legion and the other horses. Each equine was positively stunning, and both ladies helped pass the time by trying to guess breeds. Besides the usual Warmbloods, Mustangs and Iberians, there were breeds like the Obertaur, Fresian, Thoroughbred, and the Gypsy Vanner.

Legion stayed in a small makeshift pen near the DGR trailer, whinnying to the stallions as she munched on hay. Cat did not want her first racer colicing on sand, so she had made sure to pick a grassy spot for the pen, added a hay net to be safe, and was now gently working the young mare on a lunge-line to ease both of their nerves while the first two races ran. Cora wondered about and mingled with all the horses and their people, and soon met a gal named Summer Scott. She was part of a nice ranch from the English coast called Whispering Pine Stables. She and a friend had brought a lovely Selle Français and dazzling Swedish Warmblood for the races. Cora introduced Summer to Legion and Cat, and were talking about differences between Warmbloods and Thoroughbreds when the third lineup bell sounded. Summer said good luck and scrambled off, while Cat helped the smallish Cora onto Legion.

Alright then. Be careful with her, and dont fall off. Ive still had more practice bareback than you have, and dont get into the dryer sand! The stuff is epic slow And dont forget to keep her from the others when shes passing them, or maybe just use your judgment on that one And watch your turns! I dont want her breaking a leg, for pitys sake Cat always got to talking non-stop when she was under stress. She over-thought things, thus leading to her throwing every detail she could in a sentence when events were high-stress. Cora just listened, and spun the prancing Legion in a circle as she moved toward the starting line. Aye, Ill be just fine, Miss Cat! she shouted back to the owner, as she lined up with the other horses. Cat quickly grabbed her binoculars and joined her sister on top of their horse trailer to watch the race. There was a minute or two of jittered silence

And theyre off! The crowd of hands, grooms and owners started cheering and jumping as the horses threw themselves into the sand and water. Legion had been prancing at the gate, and late-breaked. But Cora kept her in easy, ground-eating strides. Cat and Bean lay on top of the trailer yammering back and forth at each other as Legion was cut off, gained more ground, ran into a particularly watered spot and nearly lost Cora (who had let her knees down). About halfway in, there was a particularly long stretch of golden sand, and Legion was neck and neck with two other equines. The sisters had to shout, because of the hollering from the crowd.

Which ended up with a gift for both her character and her charater's husband, Ag.

Title:
Medieval Cosplay Mask

Technique:
Sketch: Paint (line tool, pencil tool) and Photoshop (Blur tool, Dodge/Burn tool, Brush tool, Filter/Render/Lightning Effect tool)
Mask itself: Sculpture of modelling, then application of brown paper and newspaper sheets with liquid glue and brush (for a total of 7-8 layers). Thereafter, acrylic painting (with brushes and a toothbrush - 3 coats of white, 2 of each other color) and finally, coats of varnish (5 inside, 10 outside).

Description:
Mask done for a medieval cosplay (known as 'Grandeurs Natures' or 'GN' by those who take part of it (unfortunately, I don't know the exact term in english)).
It was inspired by Hei's mask in Darker Than Black, and NOT by Ichigo's (Bleach) mask.
Next one will be in fiberglass because this one almost got wet and distorted the time I used it.

This is one I've been holding onto for quite a while. It's definitely a labor of love because I've been working on this one steadily since the end of last summer. I am so in love with Red and Wolf, they're my favorite characters to draw (good thing too, since I'm going to have to animation them for four minutes).

Also, this took me five and a half hours to clean up. You really don't want to see what this line art looked like before I cleaned it up. *shudder*

Anyway, I'll be coloring this one digitally since photoshopping is really a skill I need to brush up on. Yaaaaaay it's 6am and I've been cintiqing all night. All the cool people hang out in computer labs on Friday nights.

^{Niloein, or Niloeinal, formerly Niloeinegal. There's a difference and it's rather important, let me tell you.

Where to start? How about ten thousand years ago?

Niloein was always very pretty. Should the word be handsome? Either way he was wicked androgynous. His family was also wicked poor. D: They lived in the "suburbs" of an island city, Northern Vunei, carving their lives out of the snow. It wasn't working out. The family was eating their last dinner when news of a rich Yndatepien slave trader came to town. Ideas formed. It was agreed that Niloein would be sold to the slaver, to live in the desert far south, so they all could survive. He was to return in a few years time.

Upon arriving on the new continent, Niloein was escorted around the city, given a "makeover", if one would call it that: wash, perfume, a trim, new clothes, everything a young man needed to make a lasting first impression. Even missing his parents, Niloein was on top of the world.

Dyranygal was the slaver's name. He was a tall man, bronze-skinned, with spiky hair the color of rust. He dressed in brown and cream furs, and held himself like royalty. Aside from the handsomeness, the muscles, the savvy, and money...his most striking feature were his eyes - entirely black, darker than night. Niloein had been told to pay no attention to it; it was a birth defect, a simple pigmentational anomaly. The man said little at their first meeting, but smiled warmly whenever they caught eyes. There was something off about him Niloein couldn't identify, but he simply shrugged it off. Unbeknownst to out little Vuneien, Dyranygal was a varke. Oho! Oh yes, one of those shadowy creatures that feasts on the souls of others to survive, who wield immense power (whether it be over illusions, emotions, or their very own flesh), who never die. But his isn't important. Not yet. ~

Dyranygal treated Niloein like a prince. The boy was always at his right hand, ready and willing to do what needed to be done for "Master". After all, he'd essentially saved the poor family from starvation... what better reason to serve him?

Here's where the story get's darker. Oohoo, I can see you smiling already. <3

It started when Dyranygal expressed a more private interest in Niloein. The feelings split here; while Dyranygal is elated, Niloein begins to turn inward. I don't hink your guttery minds need any more suggestion than that, eh?

Things progress on this criss-crossed path until Niloein is bitter and silent, and Dyranygal is searching for the reason why... when it hits him. Why not give Niloein a gift? The ultimate gift... the varke's lifestyle. Of course! What better way to make the boy happy? Share with him the power of the ancients, influence over nations, life for eternity!

It was a moonless night near the end of summer. Niloein had one guess why Dyranygal would lead him out to the desert on such a night... unfortunately, he would be dead wrong. No, dead would only be the half of it.

The process of "varkefication" is painful. Your soul is essentially being ripped out of your body, you die briefly, and are yanked back to life when the soul is shoved back down your throat. Changed. Y'know, I wrote a horrible little idea about the transformation. You can read that below.

Anyway, Niloein was ...er, distraught. Becoming a creature who must murder their kin to survive kindof does that to a person. "OH, OH, WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?" That, darlings, is a question that will be answered shortly when I draw a picture of Niloein in his present-day form. <3 Thank you for reading, I appreciate it so much. First, there's a sick feeling in your stomach. It feels like fat worms are twisting into knots in your belly, eating each other, eating you, their little needle teeth gnashing and champing and stirring up a bloody foam inside you...

Your eyes start to water. Maybe crying will make it stop. If only.

Your throat gets tight. You can't breathe. The worms have shed their slimy skins for hard, sharp scales. They cut at your lungs... it feels like they're slicing the tender flesh there into ribbons, confetti - material for a ghastly celebration of your death.

You can't hear the outside world. Your sobs are lost to the treacherous serpents inside you, their screeching would drive you to claw off your own ears if you weren't already ripping the ground beneath you to shreds. You're digging your grave.

A white light. A pale, swirling sunburst floats before you, and with it's appearance, the pain stops.

Shortly after, the light fades. All that's left is black. The darkness feels cool, silky. Sweet oblivion to wash away those horrible memories, right?

Something tickles your lips. You lick them. Whatever it was is sweet, savory, bitter. All flavors at once and more you can't begin to comprehend. You want more. You must have more. Greedily, you gulp it down, breathe it in, gobble it up. It's the most delicious thing you've ever tasted, so much so a shudder thrills through you. You open your eyes...

Everything's clearer... but more pale. Are colors missing? The world seems to have gone grayscale, but... from the corner of your eye, there's still color. You don't know it's spreading, however slowly. A few months, you'll be fine - stronger, faster, livelier...

For a creepier effect, I suggest you listen to Lies or Lacrymosa by Evanescence while looking at my artwork.

This artwork was first posted in my MR account. I really rarely draw black & White artworks, so this one is again, one of the fewest BW works left in my portfolio. This one is different from the usual pencil-shaded artwork that I have done for I have used watercolors and poster paints for the shades instead.
I was a little skeptic first to post this one even before when I was still in MR because the ones that saw the original artwork commented that it gave them an eerie feeling. This artwork is one of my old hand-drawn works that Ive done during junior year in college. The character in the artwork is my first character design for Luna Stella Vera Cruz. (Name Meanings: Luna- moon in Latin/ Stella-star in Latin/ Vera-truth in Latin/ Cruz-Cross in Latin/Spanish) Shes still a character for the Revenant story, the lady in the mansion, the folks said Kenelm had killed.
The motive why she was killed was kept secret by the Redentore family.
Luna Stella for me in the artwork represents injustice, while the Cacodemon the reflection in the mirror represents anger/revenge

Tools: Black water color from Prang, Snowman red poster paint, Reeves white poster paint, small and medium-sized brushes, Coleen pencil and Transworld oslo paper for the line art, Adobe Photoshop Cs3 for the frame. And those faint snowflake-shapes were made using small plastic cut-outs.

Time: One whole rainy day May 2007 during school vacation. (oddly enough, it was raining even though it was summer because a tropical storm was entering our country.)

This is lame and photoshop abused. I got mad at myself for ruining her expression (someone please hit me the next time I even think about taking a copic near any lips) and added tons of brushes on top of the thing. x_x
I really really liked the sketch... this always happens when I attempt coloring. :/

...And I wish I could do backgrounds.

It's my doll character Seere in her complete form. Hopefully I'll get her tail in April and the hands sometime later in the summer.

a painting I did earlier this summer but forgot to photograph so the recipient took a picture for me. had to photoshop out the fisheye lens effect, which was actually less involved than I was expecting.

the painting technique involves lots and lots of water and letting the water dry, and some fairly delicate color mixing. done with just acrylics and brushes. I was mostly experimenting. I have a couple of larger canvases that I mean to photograph done also with lots of water but since they're painted on an easel the water can drip all over the place. For this one I let it stand on the miniature canvas board (about 8" by 10").

I'm not sure about the composition. mayhaps I should have left the flowers by themselves in the middle of the frame.

As you might see, I'm really into paisley, so I had to create a picture with those pattern.

I chosse the traditional work int the category, because I drew it with a pencil and then used photoshop for coloring.

It took me a really long time to decide wich color to take, for now, I think this is OK, but maybe sometime I'll post a new version.

Hatred and Education

It's time to start uploading this year's illustration projects!

This is an editorial piece, where my teacher gave us three words and we had to create an illustration from those words. Out of the group of words, I picked Hatred, Education, and Paper.

Basically, we have a feminine school boy who just...well...got beat up. I think that one of the main things kids learn, as they grow up and go school, is how to hate. I tried to illustrate it.

I have discovered this year, that I am unable to see tangents and unusual angles like many artists can. This piece had a huge error with the pointing finger (it ran along the boy's arm) so I had to photoshop it to make it bigger

But I am happy with the solid, dark watercolors, especially since this was the first project of this year and I hadn't picked up a watercolor brush the entire summer. So, here's my first piece of the school year. Hopefully...my work improves.

there is a story behind this image that started a few years ago

one day i was wandering around a foresty kind of area at a summer camp and i saw something shimmering in the green brush. i went towards it and picked it up; it was a canteen labeled "U.S. 1918 - B.A.C.O". it was a standard-issue WWI military canteen. it had no markings on it , just a few dings and such. i'll put a picture up of it soon. i have kept it to this day.

then in our portfolio class one of our assignments was to make a painting inspired from an object. so my idea was that this canteen was stolen from a recruit by the kid in the middle of the picture. he was a group of kid treasure hunters/pirates during the early 20th century called the silverbox treasure fleet. they had their own ship and they searched the world for what kids would consider treasure , aka what adults find as useless trinkets or things to throw in closets. so they spent their time collecting things they thought were valuable for fun.

and this was kind of on accident, but from left to right each kid represents a different side of WWI/WWII era military clothing. left - british, middle - us, right - germany

this piece is a 20"x25" toned paper with conte crayon, colorized quickly in photoshop. i have not done a traditional piece this large in a very long time, but i'm glad i did it

4 Seasons, A4 size, actually this is a college assignment. Handmade, only applied more tidy black border in Photoshop after scan. Using 3 "000" brushes and 1 "2"brush. Poster colors used, Each section 3 colors only. Mixing of colors applied.

Hey All,
This is my first EVER commissioned art work....

Ok, that is a lie, but its the first commissioned work i am being paid for!

This summer working at Camp Innabah I sadly didn't have that much time to do any kind of art work. However, a friend of our Manager of Maintenance wanted somebody to paint an old Milk Can, nobody else wanted to do it (out of the I think 2 or 3 artists on site) so I accepted it.

When i Got the milk can i was kinda surprised, it had obviously been left out in the environment by the build up of rust, and it must of been very old. I wish i had a picture to show of it, but trust me, ive never seen so much rust.

In any case the M.O.M. to a wire brush/ drill combination to the thing and put a coat of gray rustoleum on the surface.

The only requirments the lady gave me for the project was this....
A. Paint a Cow
B. Paint a Tractor

I was given to reference shots and the freedom to do whatever else. Catch was, I originoally had 3 Weeks to do it. When I actually got the thing, I really had only 1 week, so i worked on it at least 2-5 hours a day while doing my real job of Arts/Crafts director during the day.

I used acrylic paint on the surface, and made a minimum of two passes on each object. First pass just to get paint on the surface, second pass to get detail.

Any comments will be appreciated!

(on a side note, if i have time im going to try to strech this thing out in photoshop so you can actually see what it looks like on a flat surface, and not a rounded object, but that will be in due time...)

Winter Morning's Travel

Semi-inspired by Oki's (from Okami) theme, which has been stuck in my head all day.

Digging around my /forced-to-be-cleaned-up/ closet, I came upon a set of watercolours, probably dating back to when I was in elementary school.
And me, being incredibly bored after only a short while after school's been let out, decided to play around with it and see what kind of ~~terrible, burning-your-eyes-out~~ artwork I could make.

And this is how this piece came to be. XD

Okay, a few things I noticed about (this set of) watercolours:

1. It was a cheap set that I found (only had EIGHT colours!)

2. It came with ONE brush, with really soft bristles that flew everywhere and were hard to control (at least it wasn't cheap enough that the bristles fell out into the paint, I hate that)

3. I have absolutely no skill with watercolours; haven't used them in years (last time I've used them was still probably back in elementary school)

4. Watercolours can be erased. o__o If you grab some paper towels to begin with, you can dab at the mistake when it's still wet and it'll go away (for the most part, anyway)

5. Watercolours are fun.

6. Watercolours make your page REALLY rolled up, so it's best to either a) pin down the sheet so it has no choice but to stay flat, or b) roll it the opposite way when it's dried

7. Watercolours don't scan very well. (I had to tweak it on Photoshop a bit before it looked like the original)

8. Watercolours give you this really beautiful, natural effect.

9. I'm gonna go hunt down my mom's old acrylics and other paintbrushes; I need variety! D;

10. It's a good idea to put paper towels underneath your drawing.

So in short, I actually like watercolours.
I missed playing with them at elementary. They were just too fun. (Gee, my mom's the only person who encourages me to draw, lawlz)

So yeah. Enjoyeth, and the title that I think fits.
Though your own interpretation (if you go as far as to interpret) is probably just as well.

I've gotten a comment that to the person, it looks like the fox is scavenging for a meal essential to its survival during the long winter months.

((don't ask why I chose to do a winter drawing in spring/summer, okay?))

For AP Studio Art. Ended up not using it because it was too similar to my concentration pieces, but not similar enough that I could include it in that category. Also, it's rather overly simple and took me like ten minutes with...a brush pen? I think? Maybe. I was going for something simple and quasi-gestural anyway but it looks like I didn't put in any effort at all. Which is kind of true. Oh well. I was pleased enough with it for what it is, though. It's about a year and a half old, like most of my other APSA stuff. Border added in Photoshop.

The Chronicles of Faggia.
a tale of mistery, horror and happy families.

This is a creation originating from a summer day's delirium that has kept going on since now.
These characters are a "happy family" with some problems - like all families have. well, not really.

The mum (the blondine) cries. I mean, she cries everyday, without ever stopping - that's her job.

The dad (with the cleaver) is a serial killer. He digs virgins and eats their hearts, or bring them home for all the family to enjoy.

the Kids are:
Faggio - (italian for beech) yes.. you've guessed right, he is of course the one with a tree coming out of his head. He hasn't really got a tree there..it's more like something to recognise him. He's the eldest but nobody really loves him, everyone prefers the two youngest children. Mum usually cuddles him but he is very sad all the time.

Alabarda & Spaziale - (italians will laugh XD) they're the twins. I don't know really if they're male or female or both.. but they are the youngest of the family, the beloved ones.

This is how I imagined the scene where our heroine Sharon first takes flight. I began working on some sketches for it last fall and finally finished it this evening. Technically, there is no inflation in the story (though it's hinted at), so I took a few liberties and, uh, enhanced her just a wee bit. The Original is 11x14, pencil, brush inked, and photoshop colored.

I wanted to brush up it a bit with Photoshop, but now I do not feel like doing this, so the drawing is more authentic. Obviously I used pencils were poor quality. In addition I like the soft pencils and these were a little hard for me.

Sepia Ink, Brush pen work scanned from a different paper, refined in Adobe illustrator CS2. Then brought together in Photoshop CS2.

A silly thing where an ancient man argues with his rhyming narrator. First in what may become a series of ink drawings. Yes, that's all ink, although the colors were mostly applied by brush (most of the background wash with a napkin! Yes, I am broke, why do you ask?). The writing didn't scan well, so I redid it in Photoshop. Note that Mister Fwiddle's speech is tall and thin, like him.

I know I said I probably wouldn't get anything up this summer, but I happened to need to go back to Rutgers to get some paperwork in, so I grabbed this drawing on my way out the door and stopped in at the computer lab. I really need my own scanner; clearing up the artefacts from the glass on these scanners is a stone bitch.

Summer Nights

This is my love letter to summer nights in eastern Pennsylvania. It was inspired by the memory of seeing a deer, last summer, moving across one of the fields outside the house, surrounded by fireflies.

The landscape isn't any particular one - more of a composite, an imagined scene, but trying to convey how things look around here on a summer night. I took leaves and bark samples off trees in the yard, samples of grass, just to get everything looking right and natural.

I think my love of traditional media comes from the tangibility of it. I rather like doing the "hard stuff" that might be "easier" on a computer, I like the feel of a brush in my hand, and I seem to have something of an obession with shiny stuff. I painted the sky with a tecninque using silver paint, overlaying it with washes of blue and purple paint so the silver background shines through... I also experimented (with the sky and "moonlight" highlights) with a blue pearlescent powdered pigment. Oh, and those firelies? They glow in the dark. I dabbed a little bit of glow in the dark paint over them for an interesting effect.

... However, doing a large, traditional painting meant that it was a pain in the rear to get scanned. I had to scan it in pieces and piece it back together in Photoshop. I'm hoping I fixed all the little paste-lines and errors.

Arcylic on canvas. The canvas was one I had to do a couple of minor repairs on, and I attempted to make those areas unnoticable. You can probably see the bigger one if you look closely.

But hey, scanner's back online, so expect more stuff. Got another thing to scan in and fiddle with before posting.

I thought this would be a neat idea for a sketch. I was talking to a friend of mine about flying kites this summer, and this stuck in my mind.
I tried to color it with brush pens at like, 3 A.M. It was a horrible disaster, I colored things the wrong colors, went over lines, ect. Word from the wise: Don't color when half-asleep.

But that's why I have photoshop. Took out all the color and extra marks, so I can attempt to color it digitally. Don't really know how that'll turn out, it may take a while for me to get the hang of it.

Well here's calamari in colour. yes, it has a very orginial title. It was colour in photoshop using magic wand tool and brush tool. Since I've no clue what to use . Going to learn to use photoshop over the summer, when I have less work.

Sketchbook work of my summer Dungeons and Dragons character, Isra Dragonsbane. We had a short but fun campaign and started at level 15. *^^* Isra's a human, level 8 Fighter, level 10 Dervish, 100% kickass dancing fighting machine. Her name is Arabic for "Night Journey," a nod to the fact that many dervishes (dancing swordsmen) are desert-dwellers and nomadic by nature. She wields two +4 keen vorpal Great Scimitars.

The story of how she acquired the surname "Dragonsbane" is hilarious. I slew my very first dragon with Isra! *^^* It was a Very Old Black Dragon, which was totally evil of the DM since we weren't high enough in level to take on such a behemoth. I got highest initiative (first attack), and I knew that I had one chance to really whack that dragon with a full attack action before its Fearful Presence kicked in and my crappy Will save paralyzed me or sent me running away. So I activated my dervish dance and tumbled in and rolled the dice to attack.

Critical Hit! Nice. I rolled again to see if it smacked the dragon, and it did. Then I pull out the percentage dice because we're playing with a Critical Hits and Fumbles table. This means that if I hit a critical on the dragon - which I did - it deals some additional effect, like wounding, disarming, paralysis, etc. I rolled the percentage dice.

NATURAL 100.

In effect, I had just DECAPITATED a Very Old Black Dragon, causing INSTANT DEATH, with my FIRST HIT, with a SCIMITAR.

Needless to say, the DM was pissed. *^^* But the rest of us were jumping around like "DUDE!" It was pretty damn amazing.

First try after years that I used watercolours! I was always thinking I couldn't paint with them but this doesn't look too bad, does it?
Only had to do slight corrections in Photoshop where I was to quick with the brush and made mistakes. Plus I added some Highlights on the water.
