[Undertale] Judgement Hall

Took forever, but I finally finished this piece--the Judgement Hall from Undertale. Unfortunately, I have no clue how to light this scene so it came out really noisy. I may rerender it later.

First off, Happy Halloween!
Undertale is by far the best game I've played in a long time, and I really wanted to put together some sprites for my favourite character, Sans.

[POSSIBLE PLOT SPOILERS]
In battle, Sans tends to keep his distance from enemies, and attacks from a distance by conjuring up bone-shaped projectiles, and relies heavily on his astounding agility to avoid attacks. He fights for his brother Papyrus, and not only for the sake of all of monster- and mankind of the present timeline, but those of the past, future, and parallel timelines. In a pinch, Sans can utilize the power of DETERMINATION to enter his DETERMINED form. With this power, and the knowledge gained from secretly continuing the work of his former mentor, and Royal Scientist, Dr. W.D Gaster, Sans has the ability to alter either Time (blue) or Space (orange). In addition, in this form Sans also fights with his Gaster Blasters, the final memento of his mentor. However, despite all his hard work, Sans was never able to combine these powers to fully realize Gaster's dream of harnessing the power of SAVE and LOAD.

Ken, is a close friend of the Crew, and also well known for his work. Known for almost always wearing pajamas and a bear hat, Ken has appropriately chosen a pair of iron claws as his weapons of choice. With his stance so low to the ground, coupled with his agility, he has the natural ability to avoid attacks. Unlike the Crew, however, Ken does not seem to demonstrate virulent behaviour, but instead relies on his own efforts. Regardless, Ken sides with the Crew, his reasons for doing so are unknown.

Zieg. Zieg is the second of the two British members of the Crew, and is known for having a refined air about her—in specific, her vernacular—and her love of her pet mice.
In battle, Zieg’s combines her athleticism with her extensive knowledge of swordplay, to elegently perform swift stabs and broad sweeps. Her weapon of choice is a feather-edged rapier. It is joked that her stabs are so quick, they can freeze the air along the topside of the blade (as seen in modern aircraft). Although this is certainly possible, the effect is likely augmented by the Virus. In specific, it appears as though Zieg can drastically drop the temperature of a localized region, causing water vapour in the air to condense and freeze into ice. These temperatures were measure to be around -50°C (-58°F). This technique can be exploited in several ways, such as immobilizing her opponents, or run them through with spires of ice. Unfortunately controlling temperature in this manner induces a heavy strain on her body, so cannot maintain it for long.
This constraint, however, is not present when Zieg enters her Shell Mode, appropriately called Absolute Zero. As detailed in the Nova Report, instead of dropping temperatures to subzero levels, she can drop them to absolute zero—approximately -273°C or -460°F—where all molecular functions cease. In addition, she can sustain these levels for large areas, for relatively long periods of time.
Fighting along side the Crew, Zieg poses a great threat.

Minx. Minx is well known for her seemingly maniacal laugh (and sometimes behaviour). When she has a target in mind, she will be relentless in pursuing it--no matter the cost. One researcher joked she was "polarized"--the irony...
In battle, Minx wields a simple sword and shield. Of course, no member of the Crew is as dangerous as they are because of they weapons they fight with. Minx fights with a sword and shield, both augmented with the power granted to her by the Virus. To be specific, Minx can magnetize her weapons, allowing her to maneuver them to and from her hands, granting her uncountable options in battle. This however is only a side-effect of her control over electricity (to be specific she has control over electromagnetism), however she has yet to demonstrate that power.
Of special note is the effect that Minx's control of magnetism on Viral entities. The magnetic force seems to nullify all Viral effects for a short period of time, including her own and those of her allies. A tough gambit.
Unfortunately we have never seen Minx's Shell Mode, but we have strong evidence to believe that she focuses on the use of electricity while attacking. She is very likely capable of producing lightning, electrifying her weapons, or directly injecting it into her opponents, and thus we entitled her Shell Mode Overvoltage. As a result, Minx would likely experience an increase in her attack power and agility.
However as part of the Crew, Minx is capable of damaging computer systems, attacking from all sides by manipulating her weapons' midair paths, and if put in a tight spot, might risk fighting without the Virus for an advantage.

Snake. Snake is well known as being the silent one, seemingly capable of disappearing from sight at will. In battle this tactic is heavily leveraged. Coupled with his swiftness, Snake’s ability to conceal his position allows for easy infiltration. Thus, within the Crew, Snake is generally responsible for reconnaissance, and espionage.
It is believed that Snake makes use of the Virus’ abilities to bend or warp light around him or other objects, giving the illusion that he has disappeared. However, it appears that he has no control of light in general; thus the control over “darkness” rather than light. One researcher noted that a better term would be “illusion”—to which I concur. It appears that Snake uses this illusion to dodge and counterattack, or to gain a tactical advantage (attacking from above or behind without the target knowing). It should be noted, however, that this concealment occurs only in bursts, and cannot be maintained for long periods of time.
Although it is not known how, intel suggests that Snake single-handedly stole top-secret information, ultimately leading up the the events detailed in the Nova Report. Without the stolen information, the destruction caused by the Crew would have been limited (or avoided altogether). Also noted in the Nova Report were details on how these files were stolen. It appears that Snake activated his Shell Mode from within the compound. It appears that Shell—termed Blackout—allows for total and complete concealment from Electromagnetic-based, pressure-wave-based, and particle-based detection methods. For all intents and purposes, he ceases to exist. Afterwards, all surveillance measures on our part were me with substantial (and successful) counter-surveillance.
On a side note, one researcher mentioned something about a cardboard box, but I’m not exactly sure what…
As a member of the Late Night Crew, Snake's stealthy fight-style is perfect support for surveillance and infiltrative operations.

Scott. Always in a suit, Scott is known for his unique fighting style. Instead of relying on physical attacks, Scott attacks with powerful shockwaves produced from his guitar, producing music. This control is likely related the the Virus, and results in a strange frivolous fight-style. Consequently, his attacks could possibly be described disorganized, as his style affects his agility, and rash, as the lack of organization may leave him in compromising positions. This, however, does not detract from his strength. Because Scott's battle style relies on pressure waves created from his guitar (that is, sound), his attacks are less effective the further the target.
It appears that Scott always has his guitar at his side, and is a proficient musician. Mentioned before, as with the other members of the Crew, Scott is capable of using the Virus to control the elements, specifically sound. In addition, Scott seems to be able to manipulate phonons on a much smaller scale.
Although Scott's role in the events detailed in the "Nova Report" are not entirely known, some information on his Shell Mode were gathered. In a similar manner as the Crew member Raven, Scott's Shell Mode "Mach" allows him to use shockwaves to propel and protect him. In addition, the strength of Scott's shockwaves is vastly increased, improving his range.
As a member of the Late Night Crew, Scott's unpredictable and unique fight-style is responsible for mid-line support.
Consider extremely dangerous.

EzeCoyote (Eze). Eze is a successful Swedish animator known for his take on the Crew’s work. Tactically, he is a proficient gunslinger—his weapons of choice are two “Class B - Mark 454c” fully-automatic sub-machine guns. He however, does not seem to display virulent behaviour, but instead relies on skill alone. Regardless, Eze sides with the Crew, his reasons for doing so are unknown.

Battle records suggest Raven is an exceptionally proficient bowman, capable of hitting small targets at nearly any range. That is, she cannot miss. As with the other members of the Crew, Raven utilizes the power of the Virus to control the elements, in particular, the very air we breathe. One report suggests this may be the source of her infallible aim.
The critical “Nova Report”, suggests her Shell Mode is particularly dangerous—especially to living beings. This report entitles Raven’s Shell Mode “Tempest”, which augments her offensive and defensive strength, as well as her master over the air. The report outlines the following phenomena: hyper-compressing air to become razor sharp, or used to suffocate. This hyper-pressurization was also used to absorb the impact of incoming attacks (à la a shield).
As a member of the Late Night Crew, Raven is responsible for anti-air and suppresive fire; attacking enemies from a distance.

Red. Alongside Russ, Red forms the strategic backbone of the Late Night Crew, anchoring them. With her creativity and swift, logical thinking, Red has been able to get the Crew out of several tough situations.
In battle, Red is known for her swiftness and adaptability. Her style is a balance of rapid strikes on the ground, and swift, spinning slices in the air. She uses her artistic creativity to allow her attacks to flow from one to another, providing few openings.
Reports suggest that like the other members of the Crew, Red demonstrates a high level of elemental control, brought on by the very same Virus entity. The Virus seems to have augmented her aerial combat abilities, and given her the ability to materialize and manipulate fire. Generally, her combat and elemental skills remain separate.
One report in particular, entitled “The Nova Report”, suggests her Shell Mode is particularly dangerous—especially here. This report entitles Red’s Shell Mode “Inferno”, which augments her aerial abilities, and control over fire, allowing her to cause conflagrations of cataclysmic proportions (as evident in the report). While Inferno is engaged, Red is capable of seamlessly transitioning from combat to elemental skills to the point that they are combined.
As a member of the Late Night Crew, Red is responsible for tactical planning, and minimizing opponents’ offensive opportunities.

Russ. Alongside Red, Russ forms the fundamental backbone of the Late Night Crew, anchoring them. With his combat knowledge, Russ is capable of formulating tactical plans in almost any situation.
In battle, Russ is known for his strength and stamina. His style focuses solely on dealing as much damage as possible with the fewest number of hits with a heavy great sword. As such, each hit is just as dangerous as the next. However, this heavy-hitting comes at the cost of speed.
Be it by pure strength, or by ways of the “Virus” (likely a combination of both), Russ seems to be able to control segments of the very earth we stand on. That is, in dire situations, Russ can manipulate and maneuver pyres of stone, causing them to suddenly jut from the ground, or hurdle them through the air.
Very little is known of Russ’ Shell Mode, but judging by the trend we are seeing in the other members, it is likely that it utilized to power of the “Virus” to augment his attack force, and give him unprecedented control of earthen bodies. Despite the lack of information, we have preemptively titled his Shell Mode “Quake”.
As a member of the Late Night Crew, Russ is responsible for tactical planning, and dealing large amounts of damage in a single hit.

Cryaotic. A mysterious man with a lustrous voice; his face forever hidden behind a white mask. It is said that if you catch so much as a glimpse of what lays beneath, your death will immediately follow. Generally Cry is carefree and jovial, however, he should not be messed with whilst angered. Cry will defend his friends with every fibre of his being.
Cry’s fighting style is centred around two identical swords, twirling and spinning them faster than the eye can perceive, to run his opponents into the ground—everything is just a blur of green, and grey steel. Cry seems to be able to be “entangled” with an unseen entity. Research shows that this entity does not appear in our realm, but instead the digital. This power seemingly allows Cry to manipulate anything within the digital realm. However, without any other further information, we can only call this power “Virus”.
We have only seen Cry’s “Shell Mode” once, and it was utterly devastating. We cannot fully comprehend its power. All we know is that he seems to have unlimited access to digital systems, and it further augments his agility to unprecedented levels. We have dubbed this ability “Corruption”.
As a member of the Late Night Crew, Cry is responsible for quickly dealing moderate amounts of damage.

This is what I managed to put out whilst having a burned hand (let alone my dominant one...). But its healing faster than expected, so I'll likely be able to get his Win animation done.

After this, I have 3 animations + 1 sprite left before I'll continue on his attack animations. Speaking of which, I'm having difficulty making his moveset feel cohesive, but I'll figure something out

The Late Night Crew: Cryaotic - Melee A

The first of five of Cry’s standard melee attacks. Next is the medium and strong ground melee attacks, and the weak and strong aerial melee attacks. I think the sword came out really well if I do say so myself, but I’m getting tired of having sprite two swords per frame...

Also, some major important news: First, I've been contacted by the Crew to do some sprite work for their official game. The art style is vastly different from mine, so the sprites will be brand new. However, because of the scope of the project, I cannot post sprites from that game (as far as has been determined thus far); to prevent stealing. That being said, I will not be changing the breadth and depth of my personal, independent project will not change, however it will be pushed behind the official game. It should also be noted that I, in no way, intend my project to compete either directly or indirectly with the official project. It is intended almost solely to demonstrate my form of art.

I'm so sorry that I haven't updated in so long--personal things, ya know? Anyways, I've completed a few of Cry's one frame motions (hit, grounded, etc.), but I won't post them as they are. I think... Anyways, here you have one of Cry's two support characters, PewDiePie, and his weapon of choice are... what the heck are these things? BroFist Orbitars? I don't know. *shrugs* Anyways, I suck at faces (it doesn't look like him '''orz), and the pose is almost identical to Cry's, so I might redo it later--like a lot of things... I've just about finished his support attack as well.

I have a couple of questions for you guys:
1) Should I post a Journal with progress information?
2) And/or a "progress" gif of Cry's Idle animation (of which I still need to design :/).
3) Anyone have any ideas for stages? I'm currently testing on one that I... "borrowed".
So please let me know what you think about this in a comment--it helps a lot.

The Late Night Crew: Cryaotic - Running Animated

This was by far the most frustrating animation I've done, and really only 3 frames (+3 flipped). I got so confused which leg was supposed to be where x_x

Anyways, I'm pretty happy with it. I also got permission to get started on [one] of Cry's support characters, so I may get to that one next. So, THANK YOU (you know who you are)!! Its still a secret until I complete ALL of their sprites. I'll leave the hint below for those who missed it. However, I've never sprited something like it, so it may take a few tries--and a long time. ~~I also don't know what weapon they'd use...~~.

Also, Photoshop is terrible for animating sprites that need "floor detection logic" and second-order movement interpolation. So I'm not sure what to do for showcasing some of the more complex animations. I've put them into my game engine and they look great, but there's no (easy) way of showing them off--especially here on deviantArt. I could record the game and convert the video to an animated gif... gah I don't know. If you have any ideas, please let me know. But for the time being, I guess I'll keep to Photoshop.

This animation is a combination between Cry's Jumping, Aerial, and Landing animations. The animation will probably be slow, but Photoshop's animation tools are terrible, so it can't be helped.

I might also tweak his aerial frames to add a little more motion...

After this is Cry's Running and Idle animations. Also, I'm trying to get permission for one of his support characters. But that's a secret. If you know, please don't spoil it

It took me the entirety of Cry's "Dreamfall: The Longest Journey", "Remember Me", and the first four episodes of "The Last of Us" Let's Plays, to pump out this puppy--my largest, most complex 3D scene to date (but that doesn't say much). I tried to keep it as accurate as possible, using the models of various devices (save for the screen) that Cry may be using. That we know of. I tried to include as much detail as I could while attempting to remain sane.

I was originally working on using 3D models, but I could NEVER get the faces looking close to nice, let alone close to their likeness. I may try that again.

Anyways, here's Cry's standing animation. Next Red followed by Russ and Scott, then on to some movement animations.

I put this together after stumbling upon the song No More Rain (jacobsparrow feat. Cry) and consequently No more water by Kiwa007 (kiwadraws). After hearing those four lines, I understood the meaning behind them--the hidden suffering, and the happiness that comes from leaving them behind--and I couldn't help but do something with it. It got me thinking about the water and rain in my own life...

Some things I want to fix: give dimension to the flat, lifeless ribbons, scuff up the mask, add blood to the mask, puddles and road, rain and ripples, add a paint line on the road.

Moddled and rendered in Blender. The poem was orginally from this video.

ChaoticMonki, better known by the alias Cryaotic (or Cry for short) is a Let's Play-er that specializes in horror, and indie titles. Very little is known about his true identity as he covers his face with a white mask. In battle, he utilizes twin blades to deliver quick strikes in rapid succession.

The first piece in a series of pixel art from a Character Selection mock up fighting game featuring YouTube personalities that I am working on.

Scan Complete:
"Based on the previous version, the new Hunter-class gunship is a fusion of Federation and Chozo technology...The ship contains a mobile energy-recharge system, microfactories designed to produce ammunition, and an advanced medical bay."

I present to you the fruits of my boredom: Samus Aran's Hunter-class Gunship from Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. I literally spent the entire day working on this sprite (on and off of course). This sprite is going to be used in a test for a new MUGEN character, Samus. Don't expect the project to be completed. Knowing me it probably won't.

I'll complete, and animate it in the morning.

Skyward Sword Hylian Brush Pack

20 brushes spread across 23 letters (see below).
An unknown 24^th brush.

A Few Notes:
The letters J, Q, and X are not present in the Hylian Alphabet. If they are found, I'll add them.
E & K, D & W, F & Z are the same brush (however they have been included as separate brushes.
Also included is an unknown letter.

To use the brush, simple double click it, and Photoshop will open.
Avoid resizing the brush. They aren't too high-res.
Because the brush isn't high-resolution, you may want to Sharpen it a bit.

Last Shiekah - Sketch Card

This is (finally) my entry to 's Legend of Zelda contest. The pose is supposed to be Sheik firing a Light Arrow (a la Brawl). Every last pixel was placed by hand. No brushes, colour reduction or transparency.

The background itself took an entire weekend, not to mention Shiek himself (I'm not gunna debate Sheik's gender. I simply choose male for simplicity's sake). I realize that I'm terrible with heads... and I plan on expanding the sunset afterwards.

Oh, I also planned on drawing the Light Arrow, but I realized that it would take too long without using conventional methods.

Anyways. Sheik is my favourite Legend of Zelda characters. He is mysterious and good with words. So much so that I quoted him twice in my English essay and got perfect.

Here's to 25 more years of Zelda! *Cheers*

This was inevitable. I wasn't happy enough with just the most difficult sprite-work I have ever done. Instead I had to go (a little) over the top and add in the logo as well.

Anyways, in total this work took around nine "Chris hours", equivalent to four-and-a-half-hours (give or take an hour).

A Lethal Strike

To celebrate the Metroid Series' 25th birthday, I've put together my very first REAL sprite. This animation took around five "Chris hours", which is probably equivalent to two-and-a-half human hours.

I planned on making Samus perform the Lethal Strike on a Metroid, which would promtly explode, but... it was too hard.

Anyways, the pose is Samus performing a Lethal Strike on Ridley from Metroid: Other M. Great game. I'll continue with sprites from Prime too.
