Reality Check

Sun, 17 Nov 2019 04:52:47 PST

Hi there!
Long time no see, I know. But I swear I'm back this time.
I've already 4-5 illustrations ready to share with you and at least a couple of more I'm working on. I'm full of new ideas, past WIP works I'm ready to complete or revamp, new headers for Facebook and my blog to do, some Christmas-y stuff I'd like to tackle and lots more.
"Sadly" I work full time, so I don't have all the time I'd like to dedicate to drawing. For this reason, I'll try to do weekly updates to avoid posting lots of new stuff in a week and then going back on hiatus until something new is ready.
Just be aware I've gone full digital in the past few months: I've an iPad now, so all my illustrations are now a combo between Procreate and Photoshop. I'm still going slow because I'm exploring which kind of brushes I like in place of my usual coloured pencil, so be patient with me. But I really hope you like the results. I'm alternating between my usual conceptual illustrations featuring my puppet Num, my bear&panda slices of life ones and silly cat drawings, and you'll see a bit of everything in the upcoming weeks.
For starters, instead of sharing my first new creation, I'm posting my latest one as it was supposed to be a birthday card for my boyfriend's birthday on November 13th. Yeah, I'm bad with illustration deadlines, but happy belated birthday, Robearto
This is a mix of bear&panda + silly cat illustrations. I've discovered my cats like to share opinions! Fingers crossed you like as much as I like it, I'd lots of fun in drawing it
Let me know what you think!

Christmas Spirit

Thu, 24 Dec 2015 07:09:19 PST

My Christmas spirit has very deep roots.

--

I didn't draw at all in the last 6 months. The last time I wrote something here was 1 year ago.
I apologize both for the long absence and silence, but I did my best to at least draw something to wish you all an Happy Christmas - you people that still wrote to me and liked my stuff in the past months, I'm so grateful!

Thank you so much and Happy Holiday!!!

ps: I'll try to write a post on my blog/FB page explaining my hiatus. Also, I'll do my best to start drawing - and posting - regularly again.

Always By Your Side

Tue, 03 Jun 2014 06:18:10 PDT

One of my latest commissions.

From the story told by the sweet guy who commissioned the drawing (Iván), I got the idea music is an important component of his relationship with his friend and I loved she taught him to play the piano. So I thought of drawing them at the piano while their music is conjuring (like magic) them as vampire boy & zombie girl on one hand and on the other as a wolf and a hummingbird (they are other selves chosen by the 2 by the way, not my imagination). I chose to have them in frames as vampire and zombie because I wanted to give the idea that the scene of him giving her chocolate was a memory, something coming from the past (and in fact it was something he did). On the contrary, both of them in animal forms are seen through a window because I wanted to represent the idea we are seeing a scene from the future. So past, future and present ( the guys playing the piano) and the common thread is the fact they are together, always: past, present and future. I added a couple of cats because the girl like them and the blue rose on the piano because it was one of the first gifts between them and a really nice touch if I can say so myself!

New entries in my illustrated world. Happy Mother's Day!

Leaving home

Thu, 01 May 2014 02:40:39 PDT

'Abandon' was the initial concept and I worked thinking about the moment we decide to leave our home in search of our rightful path in life, with pockets full of dreams.
There's who goes but also who remains behind...

Eternity

Commissioned by Hebert for his girlfriend's birthday - finished on February 2014.

He requested something based on "Love can only be measured by eternity".

Painful Memories - sketch

Wed, 02 Apr 2014 11:47:49 PDT

Commission January-March 2014, for David.
Preparatory sketch.

"With time I realized that the heart's memory has the tendency to eliminate the bad and magnify the good.
But when something bad happens, nice memories seem to slip through your fingers while unhappy ones become persistent, little ghosts that tear you open and leave you in pieces. Those memories will keep floating back again and again unless you do something more than cover the wound and hope for something, anything.

Forgetting usually isn't enough, because the true problem of holding the memories is not the pain but the loneliness they reveal.
As you may know, pain softens over time while loneliness become a burden you can't forget month after month.

Maybe the best you can do is picking yourself up off the floor in the first place."

Painful Memories

Wed, 02 Apr 2014 11:43:55 PDT

Commission for David finished just at the beginning of March.

Original drawing, made on 90 g/m cream recycled paper - 12x17cm.

He asked for a black and white drawing in a sketched style similar to my first works in particular.

I also wrote something on the back of the final drawing:

"With time I realized that the heart's memory has the tendency to eliminate the bad and magnify the good.

But when something bad happens, nice memories seem to slip through your fingers while unhappy ones become persistent, little ghosts that tear you open and leave you in pieces. Those memories will keep floating back again and again unless you do something more than cover the wound and hope for something, anything.

Strangers

Thu, 13 Mar 2014 04:30:38 PDT

We all start out as strangers.

--

The sequel of my previous pic "The Dreamers" that introduced the dragon among my usual little characters.

Reactions to strangers differ from person to person.
Num only needs to recover from the surprise of seeing a living dragon for the first time.
On the contrary she isn't scared easily and the dragon is her creation after all - see previous pic The dreamers. So she prefer to eat marshmallow and make friends with him.

Actually my boyfriend gifted me with mimosa cake last year and with mimosa cupcakes this year. I think it's even better than flowers.

Masquerade

Tue, 04 Mar 2014 10:09:47 PST

Last day of Carnival but I didn't have the time to draw anything. The same for Pancake Day
So I searched something old through my pics and found this little drawing, more than 3years old. I think it's perfect for Carnival, even if not for Pancake Day.
Could you forgive me, dear pancakes lovers? Happy Carnival in any case

Good morning to you too

Mon, 03 Mar 2014 08:02:43 PST

My kitten scratched my nose during breakfast, only because I wanted to cuddle her and she preferred to explore the kitchen in search of food.
Now I have a beautiful red mark on my nose, like a bandit! I love her so much -.-

.Faith.

Mon, 10 Feb 2014 00:40:25 PST

Chasing for a dream, I have faith I will find you once of these days.

It can be read as returning to a loved one too, not only as finding the special someone of our life.

It has both meanings because this should have been a tattoo commission back in December. Alas, the customer after almost a month of messages and changes vanished without any excuse and without paying a cent for all the time spent on the drawing.
So I wrote I was going to use the design for my own and still no reply.
Well, I finally exchanged the character for my puppet Num and here we go!

Love vs Dreams

Wed, 29 Jan 2014 09:30:36 PST

The epic dilemma: what should we choose to follow, love or dreams?
They are not the same thing. In fact you only have to think about working away from home and especially from our beloved and loved ones.

With you no matter what

Tue, 28 Jan 2014 13:40:02 PST

Commission for Andrea - December 2013.

It was a birthday gift for her far away beloved.

Painting life

Tue, 28 Jan 2014 13:38:59 PST

Commission made for Christina - December 2013.

Inspired by the following quotes:

“I want a life that sizzles and pops and makes me laugh out loud. And I don't want to get to the end, or to tomorrow, even, and realize that my life is a collection of meetings and pop cans and errands and receipts and dirty dishes. I want to eat cold tangerines and sing out loud in the car with the windows open and wear pink shoes and stay up all night laughing and paint my walls the exact color of the sky right now. I want to sleep hard on clean white sheets and throw parties and eat ripe tomatoes and read books so good they make me jump up and down, and I want my everyday to make God belly laugh, glad that he gave life to someone who loves the gift.”
― Shauna Niequist, Cold Tangerines: Celebrating the Extraordinary Nature of Everyday Life

"And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don't believe in magic will never find it."
~ Roald Dahl

Tea time

Tue, 28 Jan 2014 13:34:54 PST

It's always time for tea!

--
I'm quite fixated with tea, so a work about it called to me. Plus, I've always thought peculiar the idea that a cup of tea helps solving problems and I had this in mind when working on this piece

By your side

Tue, 28 Jan 2014 13:31:13 PST
